Salary :

CG-46 (CAD $60.38 - CAD $67.20 per hour) which includes a negotiated wage adjustment and/or supplement as applicable.

Job Summary

The Clinical Psychologist III works as an autonomous professional, using independent judgement to provide specialized clinical forensic psychology expertise through psychologist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients remanded to the Forensic Service by the Provincial or Supreme Courts or certified under the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act while incarcerated at a provincial penitentiary.

This position administers and interprets specialized and standardized psychological testing to assess fitness to stand trial, cognitive functioning, cognitive deficits, psychodiagnostic profile using DSM-5-TR formulation including psychopathy, personality disorders, psychopathology, and to direct treatment interventions in a specialized program area. The Clinical Psychologist will also conduct risk assessments to determine potential level of violence and/or recidivism and suicide. They will research, develop, provide, monitor, evaluate and modify psychotherapeutic treatment programs for individuals and groups to improve cognitive and social functioning and to lessen the risk of re-offence in the community. They will be responsible for conducting clinical education, training and research, as well as provide leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary team. They will also be responsible for supervising and providing leadership to Clinical Psychologists, Psychometrists, psychology residents, and students. The Clinical Psychologist III will advise on, and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures including risk management, quality improvement and workload issues. They will plan, develop and evaluate a program of psychological services for the provincially mandated Forensic Services.

This position reports to the Division Manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Psychology for professional integrity issues.

Fine finger/precision work when on the computer and visual concentration is required when in sessions with patients (i.e. reviewing patient charts/notes, tests and for documenting work, and when reading or researching information).

Auditory concentration is required in sessions with patients to listen attentively, to be alert and to obtain and interpret information correctly. A higher than normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.

Job Qualifications

Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.

Current and continuing registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.

Graduate course work and supervised experience in diagnostic assessment and therapeutic interventions with adult offenders is required.

A specialization in forensics is preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessment procedures, criminology, violence and mental health issues would be an asset.

Advanced training in assessment of psychopathology would be an asset.

Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.

Possessed proven analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.

Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.

Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a constructive working rapport with clients.

Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.
