Salary :

CG-46 (CAD60.38 - CAD67.20 per hour) which includes any negotiated wage adjustment and/or supplement as applicable.

Job Summary

The Clinical Psychologist III provides advanced clinical leadership, as well as administration and supervision of psychology services, in the interprofessional, Collaborative Care Neuropsychiatry Program within the Mental Health and Addictions Program at Newfoundland & Labrador Health Services. This program is focused on provision of community-based consultation, assessment, and intervention to folks with developmental disability and acquired brain injury who experience a co-occurring mental health concern, or psychiatric illness. The incumbent will provide and supervise Clinical Psychology services to clients and families referred to the program, with a focus on meeting individuals’ needs in a holistic, flexible, client-centered approach.

The Clinical Psychologist III will be responsible for completing psycho-diagnostic assessments with responsibilities including conducting advanced, independent diagnostic interviews, formulating and communicating diagnoses using DSM-V-TR, selecting and administrating comprehensive psychometric tests, supervising psychometrist(s) in test administration. Additionally, the Clinical Psychologist III will be involved in consultation with Behaviour Management Specialists and other interdisciplinary team members in the integration of assessment results within treatment/support plans.

This position will be expected to apply psychological principles and knowledge according to best practice for the provision of intervention services for individuals with dual diagnosis. The incumbent will also be responsible for implementing and evaluating the psychological interventions provided to clients and their families, providing individual and family treatment for patients with dual diagnosis, provide comprehensive training in evidence-based practice for individuals living with dual diagnosis and neurological conditions/major neurocognitive injuries and concurrent mental health disorder, or psychiatric illness.

The Clinical Psychologist III is considered an integral part of the interdisciplinary team and regular attendance of clinical rounds will be expected. The Clinical Psychologist III will act as a resource for other health care professionals and will advise on and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures (e.g., quality improvement, workload management). The Psychologist will engage in program evaluation, and may be involved in conducting research, publishing research findings, as well as applying for research and operating grants.

The Clinical Psychologist III will be required to uphold the standards of professional practice set forth by their licensing board. They will provide supervision for provisionally registered psychologists, psychology residents, and clinical psychology doctoral students. They will also provide consultation to fully registered psychologists, and other allied health professionals across the health authority. They may also be involved in the teaching and support of psychiatry residents, and medical students.

This position reports to the Program Manager for Mental Health and Addictions Tertiary Services and maintains accountability to the Psychology Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Qualifications

Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.

Registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.

Graduate course work and supervised experience in psychological assessment including cognitive and diagnostic assessment with adults is required.

Graduate course work and supervised experience in evidence based therapy with individuals and groups with a specific focus on mental health issues is required.

Previous experience supervising Doctoral level residents is preferred.

Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.

Possessed strong leadership and supervisory skills that are focused on engaging others and developing coalitions.

Demonstrated ability to provide strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to Clinical Psychologists II's and other supervisees.

Possessed strong analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.

Demonstrated ability to conduct research, deliver lectures/clinical education sessions and provide clinical direction and consultation within an interprofessional environment.

Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to participle in the clinical training activities of the psychology discipline.

Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.

Use of a personal vehicle is a condition of employment.

A satisfactory record of work performance is required.

In the absence of previous experience, the successful candidate will be required to complete a specialized training course in Winter/Spring 2025. The course could be up to approximately one week in length. Participation may include travel for in-person training and/or virtual (online) training. Financial assistance will be provided to cover the cost of the training program. A return-in-service agreement will be required, and the length will depend on the total amount of funding provided. The service obligation will begin once the candidate has successfully completed the education program.
