Fox & Johns Pub & Restaurant is an independent, fast-paced restaurant that takes pride in creating great experiences for our guests and investing in our people. We’re looking for friendly, professional, and organized Hosts / Hostesses to join our team at our flagship Bloor & Runnymede location.

As the first and last point of contact for many of our guests, our Hosts and Hostesses play an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring a smooth, organized service from the moment guests walk through the door.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is naturally welcoming, professional, and able to remain calm and organized during busy periods. You should enjoy interacting with guests, communicate confidently with the entire restaurant team, and understand the importance of creating a positive first impression.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Host / Hostess, Guest Services representative, or in a comparable restaurant environment is considered an asset
• Previous restaurant or customer service experience is preferred
• Flexible availability and the ability to work a minimum of 3 shifts per week
• Weekend availability is required
• Availability to work throughout our restaurant's operating hours
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Warm, friendly, and professional personality
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Strong sense of urgency while maintaining a positive and welcoming attitude
• Professional appearance and presentation
• Ability to remain calm and composed during busy services
• Comfortable using computers, reservation systems, POS systems, and restaurant software
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges

What You’ll Be Doing

• Welcoming every guest with a warm, friendly, and professional attitude
• Creating a positive first and last impression for our guests
• Managing the restaurant's entrance and maintaining an organized and welcoming host area
• Greeting guests promptly and assisting with seating
• Managing reservations, waitlists, walk-ins, and guest inquiries
• Providing accurate wait-time estimates and communicating updates to guests
• Coordinating seating to help maintain a smooth and balanced flow of service
• Communicating effectively with Servers, Bartenders, Managers, and the Kitchen
• Answering phones and handling guest inquiries professionally
• Assisting guests with menu questions, special requests, and general restaurant information
• Monitoring table availability and working closely with the FOH team to ensure efficient table turnover
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the host stand, entrance, and surrounding areas
• Supporting the Front of House team wherever needed to ensure an exceptional guest experience
• Handling guest concerns professionally and involving Management when appropriate
• Maintaining consistent communication with FOH, BOH, and Management throughout service
