Who we are
At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.
We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.
Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.
At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.
Who we need
Reporting to the Manager of Practicum Applications, we are hiring a Practicum Advisor to support students in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program as they prepare for practicum. As our new Practicum Advisor, you will guide students through pre-practicum requirements, helping them understand what they need to complete and supporting their progression through each stage of the process. You will review applications and documentation, track student progress, and collaborate with university teams to help ensure students are prepared to move forward with their placements in accordance with university requirements.
This is a fully remote role open to candidates across Canada.
What's in it for you
Impact on a critical stage of the student journey. Practicum is an important milestone for Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology students as they move from academic learning toward applied professional experience. You will help students navigate the requirements leading up to this stage, providing the clarity, guidance, and follow-through they need to feel prepared and confident as they progress toward practicum.
Influence on student readiness and progression. You will play an important role in helping students successfully move through the pre-practicum process. By reviewing applications and documentation, clarifying requirements, tracking progress, and coordinating with students, potential supervisors, practicum sites, faculty, and university teams, you will help identify and resolve issues that could otherwise delay a student's progression. Your work will contribute to a well-coordinated experience and help ensure students are ready to move forward with their placements.
Specialized knowledge and career growth. You will build expertise in practicum processes, graduate education, student advising, and the requirements involved in preparing counselling psychology students for field training. Working across student services, faculty, practicum sites, and supervisors will give you broad exposure to the academic and administrative processes behind experiential learning while strengthening skills you can continue to build on within student services and post-secondary education.
How you will make an impact
- Guide students through the pre-practicum process. You will provide clear, responsive support to Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology students as they prepare for practicum. You will answer questions, clarify requirements, and provide direction on the documentation and steps students need to complete.
- Review and coordinate practicum applications. You will review practicum applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy, following established university requirements and processes. You will communicate with students when additional information or action is needed and help keep applications moving forward.
- Track student progress. You will monitor students as they move through the different stages of the pre-practicum process, maintaining accurate and confidential electronic records. You will manage a high volume of information and follow up on outstanding requirements to help students stay on track.
- Communicate and collaborate. You will correspond with students and work with practicum sites, potential supervisors, faculty, and university colleagues to support a well-coordinated practicum process. You will communicate professionally and thoughtfully, helping ensure everyone has the information they need.
- Support continuous improvement. You will help maintain and update pre-practicum documents, resources, and presentations as requirements and processes evolve. You will contribute to the day-to-day effectiveness of the team and take on additional activities that support students and the practicum application process.
What you bring
- The education. You have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field, providing you with a strong foundation for understanding and supporting the needs of a diverse graduate student population.
- The organizational skills. You are highly organized and comfortable managing a large volume of detailed and confidential information. You can work independently, prioritize competing needs, maintain accurate records, and contribute as a collaborative member of a team.
- The technical skills. You are proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and data management tools, and you are comfortable learning new systems and software. You can use technology effectively to organize information, maintain documentation, and support day-to-day processes.
- The communication and relationship-building skills. You can build trusting relationships and communicate professionally with graduate students, prospective students, faculty, university staff, and other professionals. You know how to adapt your communication to different audiences, provide clear information, and navigate challenging conversations with diplomacy and sound judgment.
- The ability to navigate complex situations. You bring strong conflict resolution and crisis management skills and can remain thoughtful and professional when situations are sensitive or challenging. You approach barriers with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of the diverse experiences and needs of graduate students.
