Commercial Litigation Associate (3-5 years)

DMG Advocates LLP, a dynamic and growing boutique law firm in Toronto specializing in commercial litigation, is seeking a talented and motivated Commercial Litigation Associate to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who is looking to take on meaningful responsibility, gain experience working on significant cases alongside some of Canada’s top litigators, work directly with clients, and develop within a collaborative and high-performing practice.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in litigation and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and support commercial litigation matters from intake through resolution, both as part of a team and independently.
• Draft pleadings, motions, applications, affidavits, facta, mediation briefs, and other litigation materials.
• Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive legal memoranda.
• Attend examinations, mediations, motions, applications, pre-trials, and other court appearances.
• Work directly with partners, senior associates, law clerks, clients, opposing counsel, and experts.
• Develop litigation strategy and assist with file management, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
• Maintain strong client service standards and contribute to the firm’s collegial culture.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• 3–5 years of post-call experience in commercial litigation.
• Strong drafting, advocacy, analytical, and research skills.
• Experience with motions, discoveries, mediations, and court appearances.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
• Experience using legal technology, document management platforms, Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing demands effectively and in a timely manner.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach, including providing timely and responsive advice to clients and proactively moving matters forward.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrates a commitment to skills development and an ambition to build a practice in a firm committed to legal excellence.
