Senior Civil Engineer- Conveyance (Whitby)

Overview

A driven, passionate Senior Conveyance Engineer looking to be challenged in career development. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of the design of water supply, storm, sanitary sewer conveyance, storage systems and civil design. They will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America and GHD’s global network. The role supports a hybrid model, combining in‑office collaboration and flexibility.

The position can be based in any of our GTA offices – Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Whitby – or our Waterloo office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all aspects of civil design for conveyance and infrastructure projects with a team of engineers and designers.
• Provide project design leadership, including mentorship and guidance to intermediate and junior staff.
• Work closely with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers, Project Directors to define project scope and deliverables.
• Collaborate with large and small teams, communicating with other disciplines such as transit, bridges, electrical, geotechnical, sub‑consultants, municipalities, utility companies, stakeholders and clients.
• Ensure project design solutions meet the highest standards, programme and budgetary constraints, and GHD BIM and quality standards.
• Participate in client meetings, address critical issues when required, and integrate client requirements and specifications.
• Analyze information and develop engineering standards and specifications, continually improving design processes.
• Manage relationships with key clients and customers, and maintain an in‑depth understanding of technology, external regulation and industry best practices.
• Coordinate project resourcing, timelines and level of effort for multiple parallel projects within a team environment.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized college or university.
• Professional Engineering license with PEO required.
• Minimum of 10 years of extensive technical design experience.
• Demonstrable experience in civil design delivery for larger, multi‑discipline projects.
• Experience working in Design‑Bid‑Build and Design‑Build procurement environments.
• Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and Standards.
• Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Experience with water supply, storm, sanitary sewer conveyance, storage systems and civil design.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $83,400 - $129,400.
