Using hands-on activities and a belief in the power of education, Career Trek introduces children and youth to a wide range of occupations and professions. Its progressive learning model guides participants through increasingly challenging stages that build skills, confidence, and self-awareness. Programs are designed to help participants become more engaged in their communities and invested in their own success. Young people leave Career Trek with the knowledge and experience needed to make informed decisions about their future education and career paths.

Role Description

The Summer Camp Coordinator is a full-time, hybrid role based in Winnipeg, MB, with a mix of on-site work in Thompson, MB and some work-from-home flexibility. The coordinator plans, organizes, and delivers summer camp programming that aligns with Career Trek’s educational and career development goals. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing camp schedules and activities, coordinating logistics, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants. The role oversees camp staff and volunteers, provides guidance and support, and ensures consistent supervision of children and youth. The coordinator also communicates regularly with caregivers, community partners, and internal staff, handles registration and records, and contributes to program evaluation and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience in camp programming and operations, including planning, organizing, and facilitating camp activities.
• Supervisory skills to lead, mentor, and support camp staff and volunteers in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication with children, caregivers, colleagues, and community partners.
• Background in education, youth development, or a related field, with an understanding of experiential and career-focused learning.
• Demonstrated experience working with children and youth from diverse backgrounds, with a commitment to safety, inclusion, and respect.
• Ability to work on-site in Thompson, MB as required, with flexibility for hybrid work based in Winnipeg, MB.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Post-secondary education in Education, Recreation, Social Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Current or willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and clear background checks as required.

Eligibility Requirements

• Be between the ages of 18–30

• Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills

• Be willing to work in community-focused and youth-centered environments

Position Objectives & Responsibilities (Schedule is subject to change)

Week 1: Staff Training & Orientation

• Participate in staff onboarding and orientation

• Receive training on UDL (Universal Design for Learning) lesson delivery

• Learn outreach presentation skills and summer camp promotion strategies

• Gain an overview of outreach approaches and Indigenous-focused curriculum and activities

Weeks 2–4: Community Engagement & Curriculum Development

• Work alongside a Knowledge Keeper

• Participate in community outreach efforts and participant recruitment

• Gain insight into developing stronger Indigenous-focused lessons

• Adapt lesson difficulty and delivery to align with the Thompson demographic

• Continue outreach initiatives and relationship-building within the community

Week 5: Summer Camp with BGC

• Act as Coordinator for summer camp lessons

• Supervise lessons and ensure camp is running smoothly

• Support and guide BGC staff through lesson delivery and activities

Week 6: CT Thompson Office Clean-Up

• Organize and declutter the office space

• Remove unnecessary materials and items

• Assist with maintaining a clean and functional workspace
