CUPE 5791 Job Family Category Staff Number of Vacancies 1 Position Summary Position Summary: Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for optimizing pension and benefit programs? Are you eager to contribute to the development and maintenance of these programs for faculty and staff at the University of Regina? Join our team as our new Pension and Benefit Analyst! The Pension and Benefits Analyst provides a range of services to develop and maintain pension and benefit programs for faculty and staff at the University of Regina. Key responsibilities include: data management and calculations required to administer pension and benefit programs; working with a variety of stakeholders to adapt and formalize the management of the University's pension and benefit plans; providing cost management analysis for the benefit plans; and providing education on the pension and benefit plans in a variety of forums. This position reports to the Director, Pension and Benefits and collaborates with a variety of individuals, both inside and outside of the University. Key external contacts include Actuaries, Insurance Providers, Asset Servicing Provider, Consultants and other Universities/Employers. What You'll Do: 1. Data management and calculations - Compiles and ensures the accuracy of data utilized for members' pension disclosure statements, pension adjustments on T4s, regulatory filings, annual information returns, valuation data and reports, annual interest rates, the pension plans' and University's financial statements, pension benefits, retiree cost of living indexation, and other related reporting.
2. Establish and update benefit contracts - Ensures the required contracts are in place to support the delivery of the benefit plans. Conducts regular reviews of established contracts and arranges for amendments as required.
3. Works with clients, third parties and the pension and benefits team to streamline, automate and/or standardize processes - Investigates best practices and develops and updates guidelines and procedures to support the processes.
4. Cost management analysis - Monitor and reconcile benefit premiums to verify and confirm they are within the funding guidelines.
- Provides insurers with demographical information used to determine monthly premiums for a full range of benefit plans (life, disability, dental and extended health care).
5. Designs, conducts and participates in surveys to research trends and performs comparative analysis relating to pension and benefits programs - Ensures that the University of Regina has appropriate information, gained through a variety of sources including surveys; to develop competitive and sustainable pension and benefit plans.
6. Provides information on the pension and benefit plans through a variety of sources - Through the development and delivery of orientation programs, seminars, workshops and inquiries relating to pension and benefits.
- Develops and updates pension and benefits information on the Human Resources website.
7. Special projects and other related duties - Prepare information and create and/or implement procedures resulting from contract negotiations, committee meetings and compliance changes.

- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in pension and benefits administration
- Completion of Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) would be considered an asset
- A combination of education and experience in the pension and benefit profession would be considered

- Excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with management, union representatives, employees and other third parties
- Proficiency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercises good judgment and deals with issues in accordance with legislation, plan terms and internal administration practices and policies.
- Ability to gather, analyze and synthesize data and formulate sound and consistent judgment and opinions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Demonstrates an acceptable standard of personal and professional behavior in the work place
- Must have a high attention to detail
- Ensures work accomplished is complete in all relevant aspects
- Organizational skills in order to effectively manage multiple activities
- Sets challenging goals and objectives which are timely, realistic and measurable
- Applies reasoning and analytical abilities to accomplish work objectives; emphasizing logic and data when assessing situations and identifying possible courses of action and/or opportunities
