Senior Casualty Claims Adjuster

This position can be based in either our Burnaby or Edmonton office.

The Senior Casulaty claims adjuster is primarily responsible for handling minor to complex casualty claims, including residential and commercial liability, bodily injury and property damage losses, auto bodily injury, and products-completed operations hazards.

The role involves providing excellent customer service throughout the process, including proper investigation of the loss, evaluation of coverage, negotiation of the claim, and its ultimate settlement within the parameters of the policy wording, while adhering to the standards and guidelines set forth in the Claims Manual.

The adjuster will also provide direction to independent adjusters and lawyers, as required, throughout the claims process.

Main Responsibilities

• Determine coverage, and investigate, negotiate, and settle claims
• Maintain timely and effective communication with insureds, third parties, adjusters, and legal counsel to ensure fair and equitable settlements
• Communicate clearly and concisely with all involved parties
• Participate in mediations, hearings, and trials (occasional travel may be required)
• Stay current on relevant case law and coverage trends
• Maintain regular communication and information sharing across departments as it relates to risk

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
• Strong analytical and intuitive thinking skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong time management, prioritization, organizational, and planning skills
• Proven problem-solving abilities; self-motivated and able to work independently while collaborating in a team environment
• Good working knowledge of the legal and arbitration systems
• Solid understanding of anatomy and physiology
• CIP designation or equivalent is considered an asset
• Knowledge of Alberta Auto and Accident Benefits regulations is an asset
