Under the direction of the Director and Art Director, you will maintain visual consistency through precise draw-overs, rigorous feedback loops, and proactive resource allocation.

Position Overview & Strategic Purpose

The Design Supervisor acts as the operational engine of the design department. While the Director and Art Director establish the foundational look and tone of the horror series, you are responsible for executing that vision seamlessly across every episode.

Your day-to-day workflow balances high-level quality control with hands-on technical intervention. You will monitor department velocity, step in to tackle complex perspective models or environmental layouts, and assist reporting artists who run into technical bottlenecks. By breaking down animatics and translating director notes into actionable direction, you ensure the production hits its key milestones without sacrificing the terrifying, polished aesthetic required for premium horror animation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities as Design Supervisor

The responsibilities of the Design Supervisor are divided into three primary pillars: Artistic Direction, Production Tracking, and Team Leadership.

Artistic Direction & Quality Control

• Review & Draw-Overs: Conduct preliminary and final review passes on rough designs and layouts. Provide structural feedback and clear draw-overs to guarantee anatomical, perspective, and stylistic accuracy.
• Complex Asset Creation: Personally author the project’s most technically demanding models and environment layouts, setting a gold standard for the rest of the department.
• Style Maintenance: Deeply internalize and defend the artistic vision of the show, ensuring all background, character, and prop designs conform to established show bibles.

Production Execution & Workflow Tracking

• Storyboard Breakdowns: Analyze animatics and storyboards shot-by-shot to assess layout needs, collaborating with production management to optimize task assignments.
• Schedule Safeguarding: Actively monitor individual artist progress; step in to help finish scenes or troubleshoot technical roadblocks if an artist falls behind schedule.
• Feedback Integration: Run internal department review meetings, relay crucial production deadlines, and cleanly integrate network or director retakes into the production line.
• Proactive Risk Management: Maintain open, ongoing communication with the Line Producer and Directors regarding task statuses, anticipating bottlenecks before they impact the schedule.

Department Leadership & HR Collaboration

• Task Delegation: Direct, assign, and balance workloads across a diverse team of artists based on individual strengths and project demands.
• Talent Development: Mentor and coach artists, helping them grow their technical skill sets while maintaining consistent weekly production quotas.
• Studio Growth: Participate directly in candidate interviews and conduct structured job performance evaluations for design team members.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Industry Experience

Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the animation industry. Previous experience in a leadership, supervisory, or team-guiding role is highly preferred. The candidate should understand the pace, expectations, and collaborative nature of professional animation production.

Artistic & Design Skills

A strong portfolio is essential. It should demonstrate advanced design fundamentals, including composition, value, perspective, shape language, and cinematic storytelling. Candidates should be able to create complex perspective drawings while also stylizing them in an appealing and production-friendly way.

Draftsmanship

The ideal candidate should show strong draftsmanship skills, including accurate perspective drawing, clean structure, and precise line control. They should be confident working with both uniform and organic line weight and be able to adapt their style to match the visual direction of the project.

Technical Knowledge
