About the Role:
The Supervisor of Operations is responsible for overseeing the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation daily operations and administrative functions, ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality early learning and child care programs aligned with the corporation’s mission, strategic priorities, and policies. Reporting to the ELCC Manager: Infrastructure & Partnerships and working collaboratively with ELCC Infrastructure Developers, the Supervisor of Operations supports operational planning, program implementation, financial and human resource administration, and continuous quality improvement.

This role ensures compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ministry of Education requirements, Public Health guidelines, and other applicable legislation, while supporting program delivery in accordance with the organization’s Program Statement, philosophy, How Does Learning Happen? and quality frameworks. The Supervisor of Operations also develops and maintains positive relationships with families, staff, community partners, and external stakeholders to support collaborative service delivery and organizational excellence.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide operational leadership and oversee the day-to-day administration of the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation, ensuring efficient, effective, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Implement the strategic direction, policies, and decisions of the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation Board of Directors while providing regular operational updates, recommendations, and reports.
  • Ensure Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, licensing requirements, and professional standards, including the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Ministry of Education requirements, Occupational Health Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Public Health, AODA, and other relevant legislation.
  • Lead all human resource functions for the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, supervision, performance management, employee development, discipline, and succession planning.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture by coaching staff, promoting professional growth, supporting employee engagement, and resolving workplace issues.
  • Develop, implement, review, and monitor Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation policies, procedures, and operational practices to ensure regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of early learning and child care programs within the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation, ensuring alignment with the organization’s philosophy, pedagogical frameworks, and quality standards.
  • Manage the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation’s financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, funding compliance, resource allocation, and fiscal accountability within Board-approved budgets.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with families, employees, MEL Board members, government representatives, community partners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to support organizational goals and collaborative service delivery.
  • Lead organizational planning for MEL by identifying operational priorities, monitoring performance outcomes, supporting quality assurance initiatives, and recommending improvements that enhance service excellence and organizational sustainability.
  • Promote a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace by overseeing risk management, emergency preparedness, occupational health and safety, privacy, and organizational compliance initiatives.
  • Represent the Metis Early Learning (MEL) corporation professionally within the community, participating in sector networks, partnerships, advocacy initiatives, and collaborative opportunities that strengthen organizational capacity and community engagement.
  • Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
  • Performs other job/branch-related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in a senior child care management position
  • Experience in a non-profit, including knowledge of techniques for typically developing children as well as children with special needs
  • College Diploma (1 or 2 years) in Early Childhood Education
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and project deliverables using project management software or other processes
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement, and monitor a strong program
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of creating respectful, nurturing, and empowering relationships in building a cohesive team
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, hostile behaviour and maintain control in high-stress situations
  • Ability to think strategically, set priorities, and plan to achieve goals
  • Ability to manage confidential information and situations in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
  • Analytical skills related to budgeting and financial management
  • Ability to work cooperatively, foster a climate of shared respect, and collaboration in managing employees
  • Current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of “How Does Learning Happen?”, the Early Years Policy Framework, the Early Years and Child Care Act, Public Health and other relevant legislation
  • Excellent knowledge of all licensing regulations and requirements including any Regional or Municipal requirements
  • A demonstrated understanding of the College of Early Childhood Educators, Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Continuous Professional Learning
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting practices/financial management
  • Proficient with software applications (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook), online search, business tools, database administration from children’s records and fees
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Conducting Workplace Investigations related to harassment legislation and Employment Standards
