Site Reliability Engineer – APM, Dynatrace, Observability
Duration: 12 months
Location: Toronto
Hybrid: 2 days in office a week
Responsibilities
- Deep application and system-level knowledge across complex end-to-end environments, including tightly integrated on-prem and cloud native services, supporting large-scale, multi-tier transaction flows.
- Prior hands-on experience with APM and observability platforms, including Dynatrace or comparable enterprise observability tools, with the ability to instrument, analyze, and troubleshoot complex distributed applications.
- Proven deep troubleshooting experience resolving issues across multi-layer, end-to-end (E2E) environments, spanning application, infrastructure, network, and platform layers across on-prem and cloud services.
- Drive and execute the SRE WCCS Roadmap from day one.
- Provide assessments of current capability, identify gaps, and contribute to the SRE WCCS roadmap.
- Navigate multi-team SRE and IT Ops to drive results.
- Develop creative workarounds and solutions for complex issues.
Observability SME (Day 1)
- Dynatrace expertise (DQL, Gen3 dashboards, traces on Grail, Active-Gate plugins, SRG workflow development, business events).
- Deep knowledge of observability fundamentals (metrics, events, logs, traces) and troubleshooting performance non-functional issues.
- Experience with AWS Observability (CloudWatch, Application Signals, Lambda, API‑GW) and SRE concepts (Google SRE book/workbook).
- Knowledge of OTEL and ability to monitor systems lacking sufficient observability.
- Background in financial services with complex end-to-end transactions (e.g., 50 systems).
- Platform engineering experience, shipping platform capabilities (self-service onboarding pipeline, policy-as-code, golden signals-as-code, standardized instrumentation libraries).
- Programming experience in Python (including Lambda, ECS, Azure Functions) and Node.js (backend integrations and components).
- Knowledge of Kotlin, microservices, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) is a plus.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of backend development experience.
- Proficiency in Python and Node.js.
- Experience with microservices architecture and cloud platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Hands-on experience with Dynatrace, including dashboard creation, DQL, and APM tuning.
- Knowledge of AWS, Azure, and observability tools such as CloudWatch, OTEL.
