Internal Auditor

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Internal Auditor to support the delivery of internal audit engagements across the organization. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk & Advisory, this role contributes to the execution of the risk-based audit plan, providing independent and objective assurance and adding value by supporting the continuous improvement of risk management, controls, and governance processes.The successful candidate will bring a foundation in audit or risk practices, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders across diverse business units. This role offers the opportunity to develop audit expertise, build business knowledge, and contribute to meaningful improvements across the organization.ResponsibilitiesPerform operational, financial and compliance audit engagements, including planning, scoping, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up, while promoting a risk-focused and business aligned approachDevelop an understanding of the control environment by performing risk assessments and reviewing policies, processes and procedures to support audit testingAssess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls using data analytics, benchmarking, and professional judgmentIdentify process gaps and improvement opportunities, providing practical recommendations to assist the business in achieving their overall objectivesPrepare clear and concise audit reports with relevant findings and recommendationsMonitor remediation of previous audit findings and associated management action plansDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders while maintaining independence and a practical, business-focused approachCollaborate with Internal Audit team members, to support the delivery of high-quality audit work and knowledge sharingContinue to develop knowledge of business processes, risk, regulations, best practices, and audit methodologies through ongoing learning and developmentQualificationsProfessional designation (CPA, CIA, or CISA) completed or in progress, or willingness to obtain within the first year of employmentBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field2-5 years’ experience in internal audit, consulting, or risk-related rolesStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of attention to detailHigh degree of integrity, objectivity and professionalismProficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word); experience with data analysis tools is considered an assetAbility to analyze data and identify trends, anomalies and areas requiring further investigationStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a teamAbility to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaborativelyFounded in 1882, J.D.
