XC Ski Instructor – Ski S’Cool Program

Introduce students to the joy of cross-country skiing!

The Whitehorse Nordic Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and positive Ski Instructor to join our team for the Ski S’Cool Program .

Ski S’Cool is a fun and engaging learn-to-ski program designed for Whitehorse students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 . The program introduces children to the fundamentals of cross-country skiing through games, exploration, and age-appropriate activities in a safe, supportive, and welcoming outdoor environment.

Participating classes receive three on-snow lessons between December and March , weather and snow conditions permitting. Classes are divided into smaller groups and supported by two or three instructors to provide students with a positive and engaging learning experience.

What You'll Do

As a Ski S’Cool Program Ski Instructor , you will:

• Lead and support engaging cross-country ski lessons for Kindergarten to Grade 4 students.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students before, during, and after lessons.
• Create a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment.
• Introduce children to basic cross-country skiing skills through games, activities, and exploration.
• Adapt instruction and activities to suit different ages, abilities, and confidence levels.
• Share your passion for skiing and the outdoors through a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Encourage students to develop confidence, physical literacy, teamwork, and a lifelong enjoyment of winter activity.
• Work collaboratively with other instructors and program staff.
• Follow Whitehorse Nordic Centre safety procedures and program guidelines.

Skills Students Will Develop

Depending on age and ability, students will be introduced to fundamental skills such as:

• Getting up and down safely on skis
• Balance and gliding
• Diagonal stride
• Uphill herringbone
• Snowplow stopping and turning
• Moving confidently over varied terrain

The goal is not only to teach skiing skills, but to help children feel comfortable, confident, and excited to be active outdoors in winter .

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

• Enjoys working with children and youth.
• Has a positive, patient, and enthusiastic approach to teaching.
• Has cross-country skiing skills.
• Is comfortable working outdoors in winter conditions.
• Can adapt activities and instruction to different ages and abilities.
• Works well as part of a team.
• Prior experience teaching or coaching children is an asset.
• CANSI, Nordiq Canada, or other ski instructor certification is an asset.

Employment Details

Position: Ski S’Cool Program Ski Instructor

Employment Period: November 30, 2026 – March 31, 2027
Rate: $25/hour gross
Total Compensation: $5,000 gross for approximately 200 hours

Schedule: Monday to Friday
Location: Whitehorse Nordic Centre

The position is Monday to Friday , with the daily schedule adjusted seasonally to make the most of available daylight:

• Early season: approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• From mid-February, as daylight returns: 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Actual hours may vary depending on the Ski S’Cool program schedule, school bookings, weather, snow conditions, and operational requirements.

• A complimentary Whitehorse Nordic Centre season pass for the 2026/27 season. Mandatory Cross Country Yukon (CCY) and Nordiq Canada (NQ) membership fees ($21) are not included and remain the responsibility of the employee.
• 20% employee discount on items purchased at the Whitehorse Nordic Centre chalet store.
• Free access to ski and snowshoe equipment rentals, subject to equipment availability and operational needs. Client rental needs will always take priority.
