Manager of Sales
POD Marketing
Who Are You?
You’re an experienced sales leader who knows how to motivate, coach, and manage a high-performing team. You bring strong experience across both new business development and existing account growth. You understand how to generate opportunities, build relationships, move deals forward, and expand long-term client partnerships.
You’re comfortable leading sales professionals at different stages of their careers, from people in their first year of sales to experienced veterans. You adapt your coaching to the individual, provide clear and direct feedback, and know how to challenge strong performers to keep improving.
You inspire people to perform, but you also manage closely to the numbers. You use pipeline activity, forecasting, conversion metrics, and revenue results to identify gaps, reinforce accountability, and help your team succeed. You also care deeply about culture.
You take the time to understand how the organization works, build strong relationships across the company, and contribute positively to the team and the broader business. Most importantly, you take ownership. When something is not working, you dig in, identify what needs to change, and lead the team toward a stronger result.
What's the Role?
We’re looking for a Sales Manager to lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 10 sales professionals responsible for both new business development and existing account growth. You’ll be accountable for team performance, revenue targets, pipeline health, forecasting, and the continued development of our sales people and processes.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll conduct regular coaching, review pipelines and active opportunities, address performance gaps, and ensure each team member has the expectations, feedback, and support required to succeed. You’ll also work closely with leadership, marketing, operations, and other departments to improve the sales process, strengthen the customer experience, and support the organization’s broader growth goals.
The right person is both strategic and practical. You can improve how the sales function operates while also stepping into the details to help the team navigate opportunities, strengthen relationships, and close business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead, coach, manage, and develop a team of approximately 10 sales professionals.
Create clear expectations for performance, activity, pipeline management, and team behaviours.
Build strong relationships with team members and adapt your coaching approach based on their experience, strengths, and development needs.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, pipeline reviews, call reviews, and team coaching sessions.
Provide hands-on coaching through role-play, deal strategy, objection handling, feedback, and real-world sales guidance.
Support both newer sales professionals and experienced team members in continuing to improve their performance.
Own team revenue targets across new business and existing client growth.
Monitor individual and team performance against established KPIs, revenue targets, pipeline expectations, and activity standards.
Hold team members accountable while providing the coaching, clarity, and resources required for them to succeed.
Review pipeline activity and ensure opportunities are accurately managed within Salesforce.
Produce reliable weekly, monthly, and quarterly revenue forecasts.
Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within the pipeline and take action before they affect results.
Help the team improve opportunity qualification, follow-up, conversion, deal progression, and account growth.
Identify performance concerns and create clear, practical improvement plans.
Recruit, interview, onboard, and develop new members of the sales team.
Strengthen sales processes, reporting, tools, and operating rhythms as the team grows.
Collaborate with leadership, marketing, operations, and other departments to improve the customer journey and overall sales effectiveness.
Share customer feedback, market trends, competitive insights, and sales opportunities with the broader leadership team.
Actively contribute to the company culture and help create a sales environment built on accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong performance.
Required Experience & Skills
You are legally able to work in Canada and are located in Calgary, Alberta.
You have extensive professional sales experience, including experience across areas such as inside sales, outside sales, business development, and account management.
You have at least two years of experience directly leading or managing a sales team.
You have experience managing a team with different levels of sales experience and performance.
You have a demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding individual and team revenue targets.
You are a strong coach who can provide clear, practical, and direct feedback.
You know how to inspire a team while also holding people accountable to expectations and results.
You are comfortable managing performance through data, KPIs, pipeline activity, conversion metrics, and revenue forecasts.
You have strong experience using CRM systems, with Salesforce experience considered a strong asset.
You understand how new business development and existing account growth work together.
You are comfortable working closely with marketing, operations, and client-facing teams.
You communicate clearly and can build trust with both sales professionals and senior leaders.
You can identify the difference between a motivation issue, a skill gap, a process issue, and a performance management concern.
You are organized, commercially minded, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
You take ownership of both the team’s results and the systems that support those results.
Nice To Have:
Experience selling marketing services, professional services, or another consultative solution.
Understanding of digital marketing services such as PPC, SEO, social media, website services, and email marketing.
Experience in the eye care industry.
Experience helping a sales team improve its processes, reporting, forecasting, or CRM adoption.
Experience leading a team through growth, change, or increased performance expectations.
Who is POD Marketing?
POD Marketing is a full-service agency that works across marketing, consulting, and HR to help clients solve real business challenges. Behind that work is an incredible group of people. We put just as much care into supporting our team as we do our clients, creating an environment where people feel trusted, supported, and inspired to do their best work.
At POD, culture isn’t about perks (though we have those too). It’s about how you feel at work: accepted for who you are, encouraged to grow, and surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. That approach has earned us multiple awards, including recognition as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures.
What's in it for You?
At POD Marketing, we work hard, have fun, and genuinely support each other. We believe people do their best work when they feel valued, trusted, and balanced; and we’ve built an environment that makes that possible.
You’ll enjoy four weeks of paid vacation, twelve flex days, a Passion Day to spend however you choose, and a company-wide MeMonday to prioritize mental health. We offer a thirty-day remote work policy for when you need a change of scenery, twenty-six hours of paid volunteer time each year, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and spending accounts.
Growth and development are also a priority at POD. You’ll have access to our mentorship program, our in-house leadership development program, DiSC communication training, and ongoing learning opportunities designed to help you grow your skills and career. You’ll also have regular one-on-one check-ins, quarterly performance conversations, and a culture of continuous feedback that keeps you supported and clear on expectations.
Our downtown Calgary office is bright, modern, and stocked with good coffee, snacks, and great people. We offer discounts with local vendors and a culture that’s collaborative, energetic, and built on trust and respect.
How to Apply
At POD, we believe “that most job requirements and conceptual knowledge are easily trainable. But you can’t teach drive, ambition, or passion.” (Take a look at this article, Finding Your Unicorn , written by our President, Kevin Wilhelm). Our hiring managers consider alignment with our core values and passion for our company culture to be as valuable as experience and education.
Finding the right fit is important to us, and we put real care into reviewing applications. This is your chance to show us who you are: your voice, your attention to detail, and your excitement about joining the team. Take a few extra minutes to help us see why this opportunity is the right fit for you.
We often see strong candidates miss out because of preventable issues like missing cover letters, referencing the wrong job title or company, or submitting unedited AI-generated content. We encourage the use of AI to streamline your process, but your application should still reflect your voice and accuracy. If this role excites you, let that show in how you apply.
A few tips to stand out:
Submit an up-to-date resume that highlights the skills and experience we are looking for
Include a personalized cover letter or a video cover letter (one is required, both are not necessary)
If you choose to submit a video cover letter, keep it short and engaging (under 2 minutes, please!)
Share why this specific role excites you and how your background connects to it
Make sure your application is error-free (especially the basics like company name and job title)
Answer the application questions with intention. Your responses don't need to be long; quality over quantity matters!
If you use AI, review and edit so it sounds like you and is factually correct (no - passion and innovation are not our core values, no matter what ChatGPT tells you)
Review the posted salary range before you apply and make sure it aligns with what you’re comfortable with
Always apply through our website. We will reach out by email if you are selected for the next step. Either way, we appreciate your interest and the time you spent getting to know us.
At POD Marketing, we believe in creating an inclusive work environment, which is why we’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We consider and evaluate all qualified candidates based on their qualifications without discrimination based on race, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.
