Business Development Specialist, Pharmacy

Overview

We are looking for a Business Development Specialist, Pharmacy to identify, develop, and expand business opportunities that drive prescription growth, patient acquisition, strategic partnerships, and revenue generation across the pharmacy business.

In this role, you will act as a key liaison between the pharmacy, healthcare providers, long-term care organizations, medical clinics, and other stakeholders to promote pharmacy services, strengthen referral networks, and enhance patient access to care.

The Business Development Specialist will develop and execute growth strategies that align with organizational objectives while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and customer service.

What You’ll Be Focusing On

Business Development & Growth

• Identify new market opportunities, customer segments, and strategic partnerships.
• Generate new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and community outreach.
• Establish and maintain relationships with retirement residences, long-term care facilities, assisted living organizations, addiction treatment centers, group homes, and other facility types.
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and referral sources.
• Maintain regular communication with existing partners to ensure satisfaction, retention, and growth.
• Promote pharmacy services, patient programs, and value-added offerings.
• Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, regulatory changes, and emerging healthcare opportunities.
• Track pipeline activity, partnership performance, referral trends, and growth metrics.
• Contribute to organizational goals through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

• Assist in the development of proposals, presentations, contracts, and partnership agreements.
• Support onboarding and integration of new clients and partners.
• Represent the organization at trade shows and community functions.
• Coordinate educational presentations and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Maintain accurate records of business development activities.

Medical Clinic & Facility Support

• Provide oversight and administration of medical clinic lease agreements.
• Coordinate and facilitate the resolution of clinic maintenance concerns by collaborating with internal departments and monitoring issues through to completion.
• Coordinate and facilitate the resolution of facility pharmacy-related equipment needs or concerns by collaborating with internal departments and monitoring issues through to completion.

What You Should Have

Education & Experience

• University degree, preferably in Health Sciences, Business, Sales and Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive business development, sales, account management, or partnership development experience.
• Experience within pharmacy, healthcare, long-term care, specialty pharmacy, pharmaceutical, medical services, or related healthcare sectors preferred.
• Demonstrated success achieving growth, revenue, customer acquisition, and relationship management objectives.
• Experience working with senior healthcare stakeholders and decision-makers.

Technical Skills

• Business development and sales management.
• Relationship building and stakeholder management.
• Strategic planning and execution.
• Healthcare market and pharmacy industry knowledge.
• Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
• Data analysis, forecasting, and business reporting.
• Proposal and presentation development.
• Contract negotiation and account management.
• Understanding of pharmacy operations, reimbursement models, and healthcare systems.
• Project management methodologies and tools.
• Knowledge of privacy, regulatory, and compliance requirements within Canadian healthcare environments.
