Public Protection Nurse Advisor - Public Protection Service

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right person to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Public Protection Service as a Public Protection Nurse Advisor. Working within a board-wide team, you will play a pivotal role in promoting a high-quality, safe and effective public protection service and supporting the delivery of NHS GGC Public Protection Strategy – Safeguarding – It Matters to Us. We are seeking candidates who wish to be part of a dynamic developing service and team of Public Protection Nurse Advisors who were highly commended at the RCN Scotland team of the year awards in 2023.

The Public Protection Service provides expert advice, support and guidance to staff in NHS GGC on matters relating to Public Protection

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• This is a full-time post (36) hours
• Working Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00
• The team is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital site; however, Public Protection training and specialist Clinical Supervision is carried out at sites across NHS GGC.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide clinical leadership, specialist professional advice and support and case supervision to a wide range of staff.

You will be committed to working collaboratively across professions and agencies and be able to make evidence-based decisions.

While working as part of a team consisting of the Chief Nurse and Head of Public Protection Service, Public Protection Lead Nurses (Child and Adult Support and Protection), Public Protection Nurse Advisors, Lead Paediatrician for Child Protection, Public Protection Medical Lead and Administration Staff.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• You must be a Registered Nurse or Midwife with a first-level degree, significant post-registration experience, and evidence of postgraduate study at Master’s level.
• A postgraduate qualification in Child Protection and/or Adult Support and Protection is also required.
• Applicants should have significant experience working with children, young people, families, and/or vulnerable adults, together with relevant clinical experience and a sound understanding of Child Protection and/or Adult Support and Protection practice.
• A comprehensive knowledge of the policies and legislation underpinning contemporary child and adult protection practice is essential, along with recent experience applying this knowledge in practice.
• You must also be willing to undertake further study in child and adult protection, where required to meet individual development needs.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
