Yorkville University

Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the University Librarian, we are hiring a Collections Development Librarian to strengthen how library resources are developed, promoted, and integrated into programs and courses at Yorkville University. As our new Collections Development Librarian, you will work closely with faculty, curriculum designers, and library colleagues to ensure students and faculty have timely, equitable access to high-quality resources. You will play a key role in curriculum and Brightspace integration, develop collections that support growing programs with a particular focus on nursing and health sciences, and advance the use of open-access and lower-cost learning resources. You will also build strong relationships across academic teams, helping increase awareness and use of library resources while ensuring collections remain relevant, accessible, and aligned with evolving program needs.

This is a hybrid role, based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with an expected schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.

What's in it for you

Impact on the student experience. You will help shape how students and faculty discover, access, and use high-quality learning resources. By bringing library expertise directly into program and course development, you will influence the resources students engage with throughout their studies while helping make learning materials more accessible, relevant, and affordable.

Ownership and influence. This is an opportunity to step into a newly specialized role and help strengthen how library collections are integrated across the University. You will build relationships with faculty, curriculum, and e-learning teams, bringing the library perspective into new and evolving programs and helping establish approaches to curriculum mapping, resource selection, open-access materials, and collection development.

Professional growth. You will broaden your expertise across collections development, curriculum integration, open-access resources, and emerging academic programs. With particular focus on building resources for nursing and health sciences, you will have the opportunity to develop deeper subject-matter knowledge while expanding your experience working across academic and library teams.

As our new Collections Development Librarian you will:

  • Integrate library resources into the curriculum. You will participate in program and course development from the outset, partnering with curriculum designers, faculty, and e-learning teams to identify and integrate relevant resources. You will review courses in Brightspace, conduct curriculum mapping, assess the quality, accessibility, and stability of existing resources, and identify opportunities to strengthen course content.
  • Develop and evolve collections. You will help build responsive collections that support new and growing programs, with a particular focus on nursing and health sciences. You will conduct environmental scans, recommend databases, journals, eBooks, textbooks, and other scholarly resources, and ensure collections continue to reflect evolving academic and student needs.
  • Advance accessible and affordable learning. You will build expertise in open-access and open educational resources and partner with faculty to identify high-quality alternatives to traditional course materials. You will recommend lower-cost learning resources, support textbook selection and management, and help ensure resources are accessible and easy for students to use.
  • Build relationships and increase engagement. You will develop strong partnerships with faculty, academic leaders, curriculum teams, and student-facing teams to understand their needs and bring library expertise into program development and delivery. You will proactively promote available collections and help increase awareness and use of library resources across the University.
  • Support students and faculty. You will provide research and reference support both on campus and online, helping students and faculty confidently navigate library resources and databases. You will develop and deliver webinars, demonstrations, library guides, and other learning resources that make information easier to find, understand, and apply.
  • Strengthen library services. You will collaborate with library colleagues to continuously improve collections, services, and processes. You will use data, feedback, and assessment to identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to library planning and initiatives that support University priorities and accreditation requirements.

You have:

  • The education. You have completed, or are about to complete, a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program. You have gained an understanding of collections development and evidence-based assessment through your education, practical experience, or a combination of both.
  • The collections knowledge. You have an understanding of collections development and the processes involved in selecting, acquiring, assessing, and managing academic resources. You are interested in building your expertise in open-access resources, textbook affordability, and developing collections that respond to evolving curriculum and program needs .Experience supporting nursing or health sciences collections is also an asset.
  • The technical skills. You are comfortable learning and working with library and educational technologies and understand how digital resources can be integrated into the learning experience. Familiarity with Brightspace, LibGuides, EBSCO products, OpenAthens, EDS Discovery, Microsoft 365, Zotero, or similar tools is an asset.
  • The relationship-building skills. You are a confident and engaging communicator who enjoys connecting people with information and resources that can help them succeed. You can build trusted relationships with faculty, students, academic leaders, and cross-functional teams, present information clearly, and proactively identify opportunities to provide support.
  • The initiative. You are curious, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You can work independently while contributing to a collaborative team, manage multiple priorities, and look beyond the immediate request to identify opportunities to improve collections, resources, and services.
  • The service mindset. You approach students, faculty, and colleagues with patience, care, and a genuine desire to help. You value different perspectives and experiences and are committed to supporting an inclusive and accessible learning environment for students from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Why work at Yorkville University?

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we are united by a shared purpose: placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do. Whether you are teaching, designing curriculum, advising students, advancing technology, or supporting operations, your work directly fuels learning potential, strengthens inclusive communities, and fosters purposeful curiosity.

Here, professional growth is part of our culture. In your role, you will have opportunities to help the launch of career-relevant programs, expand your expertise, and access tuition-free courses across our institutions - from certificates to master’s degrees. Curiosity, initiative, and innovation are encouraged, and your ideas can move from vision to reality.

Our scale offers the best of both worlds: the reach and stability of a national institution combined with the agility of a mid-sized organization, where contributions are visible and valued. You will be part of a diverse and inclusive community where authenticity is celebrated, collaboration is expected, and impact is shared - on students, colleagues, and your own professional journey.

At Yorkville and Toronto Film School, your work does more than make a difference. It empowers others to achieve their potential, while allowing you to realize yours.

Compensation philosophy

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe compensation should be fair, straightforward, and supportive of your growth. Our salary ranges reflect progression from learning in the role to excelling, with each offer based on skills, experience, and role complexity.

This position offers a minimum annual salary of $65,000, a midpoint of $70,000 and a maximum of $75,000. Established hires typically start near the midpoint, while the upper range is reserved for those with deep expertise and sustained contributions. Offers below the midpoint recognize strong potential with room to grow.

We strive for equitable, consistent pay, though rates may vary within the same role based on performance, specialized knowledge, and impact.

Base salary is one part of a broader package that includes paid time away, retirement savings matching, and extended health coverage with 80% of premiums paid. After 12 months of full-time employment, there is also tuition-free access to all our education programs.

We welcome conversations about compensation throughout the hiring process.

Join us

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor to discuss your interest in joining Yorkville University and in the role. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
  • An in person panel interview with the University Librarian, Resource Management Librarian, and a member of the Curriculum/eLearning/LMS team. You will deliver a 15-minute presentation focused on how you would approach engagement, collections development, and curriculum integration, followed by a 45-minute discussion exploring your experience, approach to relationship building, communication skills, and understanding of collections development and curriculum integration.
