Regional Director, Western Canada

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) is seeking an experienced and strategic public affairs professional to join our leadership team as Regional Director, Western Canada .

CIAC is the national voice of Canada’s chemistry and plastics sector. Our members help create the essential building blocks used in everyday products and technologies across nearly every manufacturing industry in Canada. We are also the founders of Responsible Care, the chemistry industry’s globally recognized sustainability initiative, and deliver important programs including Operation Clean Sweep and TRANSCAER.

Our team works closely with governments, industry leaders, and stakeholders to advance practical, evidence-based policy solutions that benefit Canadians, the economy, and the environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Vice-President, the Regional Director, Western Canada serves as CIAC’s senior representative in Western Canada, primarily Alberta and British Columbia.

The successful candidate will lead government relations and advocacy efforts, build trusted relationships with policymakers and stakeholders, and work closely with member companies to develop practical, evidence-based policy positions that advance industry priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Government Relations and Advocacy

• Develop and execute CIAC’s Western Canada advocacy and government relations strategy.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with provincial and federal elected officials, ministers, political staff, and senior public servants.
• Represent CIAC before governments, industry associations, and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with CIAC colleagues across Canada to coordinate policy and advocacy initiatives.

Policy Development

• Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting the chemistry and plastics sectors.
• Prepare briefing materials, policy analyses, presentations, and strategic recommendations.
• Support the development of credible, evidence-based policy positions that reflect member priorities, Responsible Care principles, and Operation Clean Sweep.
• Contribute to federal advocacy initiatives when required.

Member Engagement and Committee Leadership

• Lead Western Canadian policy committees and facilitate productive member engagement.
• Translate member perspectives into policy recommendations and advocacy positions.
• Support CIAC’s Policy and Public Affairs Committee and collaborate on position papers, submissions, and issue management.
• Participate in CIAC’s intelligence gathering and issue monitoring activities, identifying emerging developments and opportunities.

Qualifications

Education

• University degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of experience in public policy, government relations, public affairs, advocacy, or stakeholder relations.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic advocacy initiatives.
• Strong understanding of provincial and federal government processes and decision-making structures.
• Experience presenting to senior audiences and serving as a credible public spokesperson.
• Experience within the energy sector, chemistry sector, manufacturing, or another regulated industry is considered an asset.

Location and Work Arrangement

This remote position is Alberta-based preferably in Calgary or Edmonton.

Salary: $125,000 - $135,000
