Accounting Research Analyst

As an Accounting Research Analyst, you will be responsible for the coordination of relevant accounting standard implementation and financial reporting projects. You will engage with business unit Operations and Finance to determine effective processes that meet financial reporting requirements and support financial reporting analysis. Primary duties include:

• Design and deliver project scope and plan in collaboration with financial reporting, business unit finance, operations, and corporate resources.
• Develop and maintain project documentation and reports.
• Identify and escalate project issues and risks developing recommendations for resolution.
• Review and assess operational data for accounting purposes.
• Work with Financial Reporting to understand and interpret technical accounting standards.
• Provide support to Financial Reporting in analysis and preparation of financial schedules.
• Consult and collaborate with invested parties to understand goals and project outcomes through committees, meetings, and presentations.
• Direct and coordinate cross-functional team members.
• Obtain sponsor approval by managing project implementation taking into consideration City policies and procedures and collaborating with corporate resources such as FOIP, Communications and Corporate Security to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• A degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least 5 years of progressive financial experience which includes leading financial projects.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and in data analytics is required.
• Previous experience with public sector accounting standards, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) will also be considered assets.
• Previous experience with Financial Reporting, and with People Soft Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) and Human Capital Management (HCM) is considered an asset.
• Success in this position requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, innovation and an ability challenge the status quo and think of new ways of doing things.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by well-developed presentation and facilitation skills are essential.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
