Accounts Payable Accountant
SunMETA operates leading Western Canadian private colleges with multiple locations delivering diploma programs in both on-campus and online modalities in the business, health, hospitality, legal and technology fields.
SunMETA Group is currently seeking to fill the permanent role of an Accounts Payable Accountant in Calgary, Alberta. This is an entry level position. This role reports to the VP Finance.
Responsibility for recording accounts payable transactions for the college and related entities. This includes using online banking software to set up various types of electronic payments. The position requires general financial accounting, in addition to the core accounts payable role.
Training and learning how to use a new accounting system in the coming year.
Liaise with regulatory agencies & vendors to respond to inquiries and correspondence.
Active collaboration with staff across the organization to get tasks and projects completed. Includes maintaining and acting on data files shared with other departments.
Post-secondary education in accounting, or applicable certificates, or related experience.
Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with QuickBooks, but will have to learn how to use a new replacement accounting system.
Data accuracy is extremely important, to reduce the extent of subsequent review and corrections.
To be successful in this position the candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and high data entry accuracy.
Ability to interpret data, identify discrepancies and propose adjustments where needed.
Proven ability to collaborate well with accounting team members, as well as be effective when working independently.
Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
