Shift Nursing-RN/RPN

Department: Ambulatory Care Clinic

The Surgical Clinic operates several days a week in the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), handling minor surgical procedures, follow-up post-operative appointments and consultations. Day surgery patients (adults and children) receive pre and post-operative care in the day surgery department. A variety of services can have outpatient day surgery procedures: General surgery, Dental surgery, Ear, nose and throat, Orthopedics, Urology, Gynecology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required (recent within past twelve months)

Certification in IV therapy required

Therapeutic Phlebotomy certification required

Capillary Blood Glucose testing certification required

Wound debridement certification required

Wound Management including vac dressings an asset

Experience in surgical nursing acute care setting and ambulatory clinics required

Skills/Abilities :

Must be willing to function within the RPN full scope of practice

Ability to identify and address health teaching needs required

Ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team with the ability to function well in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment required

Ability to meet the physical demands of the position required

Ability to work with minimal supervision required

Strong demonstrated assessment skills/history taking required

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required

Basic computer knowledge required

Good attendance and work record required

Must be available for scheduled shifts and call-ins

Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
