Mechanical Assembler - Assembly

Randstad is hiring for SWBD Mechanical Assembler roles in Milton! Custom Switchboard Mechanical Assembler (Experienced)

Reporting to the Production Manager - Custom Switchboards, this position will work as part of a crew to assemble, fit and mount mechanical components into steel switchboard structures. Candidates must have medium to advanced assembly skills and be able to read and follow engineering drawings and models. There is no wiring in this role.

** Candidate must agree to work on day shift for a training period of up to 8 weeks, graduating to afternoon shift when able to work independently.

Build large switchboard structures and subassemblies using pre-fabricated metal parts (steel and copper), following engineering schematics and electrical drawings.

• Mount and brace horizontal and vertical bus, risers and bus supports inside structures in sequential order.
• Ensure strong assembly fundamentals are used at all times (ie., Identify design issues in mechanical and electrical schematics and raise them through the correct channels.
• Visually inspect parts and material before and after assembly for conformance to drawings, quality standards and customer specifications, and make mechanical adjustments as needed.
• Check parts picked/delivered to those required using the bill of materials, resolving issues with the Team Lead.
• Repair or rework issues detected during the inspection/test stage of the job.

• Able to visualize and plan the assembly of a switchboard structure, based on engineering schematics and electrical drawings.
• Very experienced with the use of power tools, hardware, ladders and pallet trucks.
• Excellent attitude and commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement and teamwork.
• Functional with computers, in order to use a variety of digital business tools (email, electronic models, eLearning modules).

Able to read, write and speak basic English without help from an interpreter.

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical assembly using power tools.
