We are inviting applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities for the position of Planning Engineer. This position will focus on the short and long-term planning of water, sanitary, drainage/flood protection, and roads/active transportation infrastructure, support the infrastructure design and construction section, and support the Operations Department with the operation and maintenance of all water, sanitary, drainage/flood protection, and roads/active transportation assets. Water, sanitary, drainage modelling, transportation modelling.
Asset management processes.
Assist in the operations and maintenance of sanitary and water treatment systems.
Servicing assessments for land development applications.
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a Professional Engineer with experience in the management of municipal infrastructure. Experience in a municipal government setting is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.Demonstrable skill in spreadsheet, word processing, database programs and computer file organization.
- Demonstrable advanced skills using AutoCAD Civil 3D skills to prepare engineering concept and preliminary design drawings. and the ability to use mapping and GIS programs in an engineering, asset management environment.
- Demonstrable skill in engineering/asset management planning.
- Demonstrable ability to keep accurate records and notes to prepare conceptual and preliminary drawings, other utility records, spreadsheets using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other programs.
- Demonstrable ability to manage direct engineering and project team staff in a unionized environment.
- Independence of judgement and capacity of working with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrable ability to present complex technical and financial materials to senior leadership and Council.
