Correctional officers (COs) maintain the safety and security of federal institutions. monitor inmate movement and behaviour and record observations

respond to security incidents and emergencies

COs must be able to work shifts, flexible hours, weekends and statutory holidays. COs may be required to work overtime.

Canadian Citizen or PR

Valid class 5 driver’s license (not GDL)

Over 18 years old

No criminal record

Humane Care, control, and custody of federally sentenced inmates.

Ensure safety and security of staff and offenders in institutions

Ensure safe transition of eligible offenders into the community

Contribute to public safety and administer court-imposed sentences of two (2) years or more.

Duties: As a correctional officer, you will:

conduct routine patrols and inmate counts

supervise inmate movement and escort inmates both inside and outside the institution

search cells, offenders, visitors, vehicles, living units, and surrounding areas

conduct security checks and perform other duties as required

verify safety equipment

brief visitors, volunteers, and other criminal justice professionals who enter the institution
