Summary
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining general ledger accounts and supporting the overall operation of the Finance department through accurate financial reporting, analysis, and process improvements.
Responsibilities
Perform general ledger accounting functions, including daily cash flow analysis, bank reconciliations, payroll and assist in monthly/quarterly financial statement preparation.
Prepare and file Canadian and U.S. sales tax returns; ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Complete monthly account reconciliations and variance analysis to support financial accuracy.
Assist in the year-end audit preparation, including working papers and responding to auditor inquiries.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including ERP system optimization.
Complete ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the Corporate Controller.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Minimum 3 years of relevant corporate accounting experience, ideally within a large or multi-location company, in both Canada and US.
Experience in a nationwide distribution or construction materials industry is a strong asset.
Strong understanding of GAAP; experience with ASPE preferred.
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Excel (including Macros, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
Experience with ERP systems and an interest in process optimization and automation.
Solid understanding of audit processes

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and customer service orientation.
