Financial Counsellor
Community Financial Counselling Services (CFCS) is a non-profit member agency of United Way of Winnipeg. CFCS has for 50 years helped meet the complex and often unique needs of individuals and families in Manitoba who are experiencing financial challenges. CFCS utilizes a Financial Empowerment model of poverty reduction in providing coaching, counselling, financial literacy, tax preparation and access to benefit services to low-income Manitobans.

The Financial Counsellor's role is to provide financial counselling services to clients under the supervision and direction of the Senior Financial Counsellor/Program Manager and Executive Director.
Using a client-centered, solution focused, strengths-based approach, the counsellor is responsible for assisting clients to identify realistic solutions to financial problems and provide information and support for clients to make informed choices in the implementation of plans that will stabilize their financial situation and enable the effective management of their financial affairs. Deliver workshops on various topics, such as credit, budgeting, Money Habitudes, as requested by the community.
Empathy and a genuine desire to work as part of a team and help people is a key part of this role.
Post-secondary degree, preferably in a counselling related discipline (Social Work, Human Ecology)
- 1 to 3 years of counselling experience
- Experience working in a financial institution/credit or financial counselling organization.
- Basic knowledge of financial issues relating to credit, debt, budgeting, money management as well as tax knowledge.
- Experience working with clients dealing with addictions is an asset.
- Knowledge of the social services sector and community agencies.
- Solid integrity and respect for confidentiality.
- Proficiency with technology and computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, UFile Tax Software, Databases, etc.
- Valid driver's license in good standing required for travel to rural communities.
Full time, 12-month term
· Minimum probation period of 3 months
