Senior Accounting Supervisor

Location: This hybrid role requires 3 days on-site at our Burnaby, BC office and 2 days remote per week.

The Senior Accountant (internally known as Store Accountant ) is responsible for preparing monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for a portfolio of Canadian retail stores. This includes ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial data.
The Store Accountant will also collaborate with the Store Controller, the Corporate Controller, the Tax Manager, and other key stakeholders to ensure a high standard of financial support and insight is provided to the business.

Manage the month-end close process for a portfolio of stores, from ledger review through to account preparation.
Prepare monthly management accounts and annual financial statements in compliance with internal and external standards.
Complete year-end tasks, including responding to audit queries.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
Reconcile third-party insurance, all tender types and GST, and PST accounts.
Respond promptly to financial queries from store partners and Support Office teams.
Provide relevant financial data and insights to support new store openings.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.
Participate in ad hoc projects impacting store accounting or financial systems.
3+ years of accounting experience and CPA desingated.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
• Proficiency with accounting software and general ledger systems.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., A proactive, curious mindset with a commitment to data integrity.

Working knowledge of Open Accounts ERP system.
Experience of accounting in a retail environment.
Experience in public practice.
