Server Operations Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Server Operations Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute routine maintenance tasks both during and after hours;
- Assist in long-term strategic planning to ensure server capacity meets current and future requirements;
- Implement automation tools & frameworks to streamline routine maintenance;
- Collaborate with team members to improve engineering tools and dashboards to better monitor the company’s computing architecture;
- Provide recommendations on changes and design enhancements to improve reliability, security, and processes;
- Troubleshoot production issues with a sense of urgency and coordinate with the development/engineering teams to implement fixes;
- Conduct proactive monitoring of all servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and superior SLA’s;
- Conduct post-incident reviews & identify areas for long term reliability & scalability improvements;
- Ensure the appropriate level of documentation to support operations;
- Participate in the after hours on-call rotation;
- Conduct system tests for security, performance and reliability.
Requirements:
- Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment;
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Software Engineering or other related discipline;
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills;
- Must be willing to work flexible working hours and participate in on-call rotation;
- Strong troubleshooting skills – systematic problem-solving approach;
- Experience with Powershell or Python, SQL, and Linux based systems.
