We are looking for a 2D Character Concept Artist to help establish the character style for an upcoming 2D animated project. The artist will work closely with the Art Director, exploring characters, poses and design directions and helping define a cohesive visual approach for the project.
ProjectThe project is a sports documentary. Animated segments will appear alongside archival material, recreating, or complementing historical moments through short animated sequences.
The characters are primarily professional athletes, so a strong understanding of anatomy, movement and physicality is important.
The visual direction will combine realism and stylization, with expressive drawing, dynamic posing and a strong 2D artistic feel
What we are looking for
A strong 2D artist with:
- Strong drawing and illustration skills
- A solid understanding of human and athletic anatomy
- Strong sense of shape language, silhouette and character appeal
- Ability to capture energy, movement and physicality
- Expressive linework and a painterly approach to colour
- A strong interest in visual development and design exploration
- Professional experience in 2D animation, on a series or else
Contract
This is currently a short-term freelance contract, focused on character exploration and visual development. Please note, in order to qualify the following must apply to you:
- Based in Ontario, Canada
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Please include a portfolio link with relevant examples of 2D character design / visual development.
