PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Indigenous Victim Services Manager is responsible for the management of the Indigenous Victim Services program and staff. The Manager is responsible in leading Indigenous Victim Services in Brantford, Hamilton and the Six Nations Community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Master's degree in social work or related discipline. Or a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, with a strong counselling background and 2-3 years related experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience working with Indigenous organizations or within First Nations communities.
- Aware of services available in the Six Nations Community and surrounding areas.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices and assessments to support crises, traumatic events, suicidal risk and posttension for clients, staff and families is required.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- High level understanding of the mainstream legal and court system.
- High level of communication skills: interoffice, telephone, and written.
- High level of computer software skills: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power, and Publisher.
- Excellent research and data collection skills.
- Ability to adapt and to relate effectively with people of all ages.
- Has a valid G license.
- Must have favorable criminal record check and vulnerable sector.

POSITION TITLE : Indigenous Victim Services Manager
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Indigenous Victim Services Manager reports and receives direction from the Justice Director/Staff Lawyer.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Indigenous Victim Services Manager is responsible for the management of the Indigenous Victim Services program and staff. The Manager is responsible in leading Indigenous Victim Services in Brantford, Hamilton and the Six Nations Community.
STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess a Master's degree in social work or related discipline. Or a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, with a strong counselling background and 2-3 years related experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TECHNICAL
- Responsible in leading the delivery of services for indigenous victim services for the Six Nations, and for the indigenous communities in Brantford and Hamilton.
- Will ensure that IVS staff are aware of Haudenosaunee Legal Principles, the Indigenous victim services model and Indigenous Victim Services handbook for clients and advocates.
- Will ensure the IVS resource list is up to date
- Ensures IVS policy and procedures are in place to provide program consistency and structure for the IVS staff.
- Ensures advocates case notes are completed in a timely fashion and victim safety plans are completed and updated.
- Will be responsible for providing support to IVS staff and clients in high-profile cases during trials.
- Keeps updated on provincial and federal legislation related to victims and/or witnesses of crime.
- Knowledge of the family and criminal legal system.
- Implements standardized training for staff and updates training materials for their reference.
- Will be responsible for ensuring Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP) applications are completed in a timely fashion.
- Prepares monthly, annual and other statistical reports as required from director and ministry of attorney general reporting requirements.
- Submits applications for ministry, municipal and other grants, and attends any related meetings to provide updates or present applications when appropriate
- Attends meetings as well as interagency meetings relevant to the role of Indigenous Victim Services.
- Assure victim friendly and accessible services
- Works with IVS advocates in organizing, tracking and setting up victim alert buttons for clients.
- Participates in Justice Department community events.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Represent Six Nations Justice Program at inter-agency meetings when appropriate.
- Answer telephone calls and responds to emails relating to the program.
- Will fill out quarterly reports for the Ministry.
- Will adhere to program budget when planning activities.
- Create tracking sheet for phone call inquiries.
- Follow procedures and practices related to, but no limited to, case management, informed consent, confidentiality and record keeping.
- Keep monthly program statistics and reports to immediate supervisor.
- Keep the Justice director apprised of activities on a weekly and monthly basis both verbally and written.
COMMUNICATION & LIAISON
- Ensures confidentiality is maintained.
- Provides statistical reports and recommendations.
- General understanding of communication procedures within an office setting.
- Enhances relationships with education system, justice system, community resources and works in collaboration with existing community base programs and services.
- Participates in team approaches to resolving issues, conflicts and problems that may arise in the process of providing services.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures compliance following the Justice
- Departments’ policy
- Foster communication and linkages with community agencies/organizations to improve access and mitigate barriers to services and supports.
- Liaises with other community agencies to coordinate services to indigenous victims.
- Communicates with the police services on a regular basis and consult with them on any operational or service delivery issues causing concern.
- Will advocate and liaise with the Ministry of Attorney General, Victim Quick Response Program representatives highlighting the unique needs of Indigenous victims.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Performs other job related duties as may reasonably be required by the Justice Director. Will attend and participate in scheduled training as directed by immediate supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves mental stress; requires working inside/outside; requires travel; requires extensive interactions with the public, who at times may be hostile or irate; subject to interruptions, deadlines, unscheduled hours.
- Work has a high public profile, extensive public contact and is subject to deadlines and interruptions.
- Work involves considerable out-of-office contact.
- Work requires the ability to prioritize tasks, work independently with minimal supervision, and cope with many demands and time constraints.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
With the Justice Director / Staff Lawyer
Receives direction, guidance, and discusses plans and priorities to ensure tasks are done efficiently and effectively, receives instruction and supervision.
With Department Staff
Liaises, cooperates and provides encouragement; maintains control through teamwork and direction.
With Other Staff
Maintains cooperation and consideration with all staff.
With External Agencies
Represents and promotes Six Nations interests relative to the Justice Department and IVS and maintains awareness of legislative policy and program changes; seeks to develop sound, professional working relationships.
With the Public
Represents and promotes the justice program interests of Six Nations; works in a courteous, co-operative, positive and proactive manner, provides information as requested.
IMPACT OF ERROR
Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relation, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Director of Justice, Six Nations Council, Government Agencies and the public.
CONTROL
Guiding principles set by the Justice Department and Six Nations Council. Works within the administrative policies and procedures by the Six Nations Council for the Justice Department and other legislation provided by the respective government.
