JOB SUMMARY: The Manager of Kanikonriio Program reports to and receives direct supervision from the Director of Social Services or Designate, Six Nations Council.
The purpose of this position is the direct supervision of staff and actively involved within the Youth Life Promotion, Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction Workers, School Social Worker, and Indigenous Community Worker Programs (herein referred to as “The Programs”) and participates with supports for crisis services and planning to support Strong Families.
The scope of this position includes developing and delivering of on-going holistic programs, cultural workshops, land-based activities, and special events; monitoring the administration of the program for reporting and data collection; and performing other related duties as determined by need within the spectrum of The Programs and crisis services to support students in the federal schools and their families as needed and the Six Nations students attending secondary school in the Grand Erie School.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree in Social Services; or community college diploma in social work or related social services field with two years’ experience working with First Nations Youth at risk with focus on mental health and addictions;
- Supervisory experience will be an asset;
- Two years’ experience with crisis response and participation in Tragic Events Response Teams and peer support;
- Excellent computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in current business software;
- Ability to support youth.
- CPR First Aid, or willing to obtain.

MANAGER OF KANIKONRIIO PROGRAM
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and receives direct supervision from the Director of Social Services or Designate, Six Nations Council.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of this position is the direct supervision of staff and actively involved within the Youth Life Promotion, Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction Workers, School Social Worker, and Indigenous Community Worker Programs (herein referred to as “The Programs”) and participates with supports for crisis services and planning to support Strong Families.
The scope of this position includes developing and delivering of on-going holistic programs, cultural workshops, land-based activities, and special events; monitoring the administration of the program for reporting and data collection; and performing other related duties as determined by need within the spectrum of The Programs and crisis services to support students in the federal schools and their families as needed and the Six Nations students attending secondary school in the Grand Erie School.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- TECHNICAL
- Participate in the preparation of budgets, work plans and program plans for The Programs to meet the overall service objectives and program goals within the funding guidelines.
- Monitor the development of a catalogue of all materials acquired.
- Monitor and ensure the development and maintenance of a public/staff resource library.
- Monitor and develop advertising for the unit and approval of the Director
- Plan, implement, and monitor an effective process of training requirements, program development, and external and internal resources.
- Requires flexibility and responsiveness to youth, schools, and parents as well as the ability to engage youth to build resiliency and promote mental health and well-being; assess and address immediate preventing issues to address any immediate crises; and connect with supporting services.
- Monitor the input of accurate and relevant information into the information system.
- Monitor and assist in the development and delivery of public promotion strategies to increase the community’s awareness of programs and services available (i.e. newsletter updating the community on program developments).
Work of The Programs and Crisis Services
- Monitor and assist in the development, delivery, organization and evaluation of information sessions, programs, and workshops when required.
- Assist in the planning, development, and delivery of programming by The Programs when required.
- Create linkages with health professionals when needed for assessments, care plans, day treatment plans, etc.
- Act as a resource to and facilitator of The Programs and their services.
- Monitor unit staff performance, recommending specific training to improve service provision and administrative skills as required.
- Ensure that The Programs’ principles as well as the overall principles of Six Nations Social Services are used in work completed.
- Prepare and present concise program reports.
- ADMINISTRATIVE
- Develop appropriate job descriptions and eligibility requirements for workers.
- Ensure policies and procedures are established and followed for intake, assessment, orientation, data collection, and reporting.
- Approve recruitment/information and continuously advertise through all possible media (radio, newspaper, flyers, poster, etc.).
- Assist in the establishment of interagency protocols in respect to the delivery of community support services to members.
- Monitor the work of the unit and recommend actions required for training, capacity building, and participating in staffing actions for the unit.
- Monitor and approve staff timesheets, weekly itineraries, quarter time summaries, accounts payable, travel claims, and all reports.
- Review and recommend unit expenditures (travel claims, supplies, etc.).
- Monitor expenditures against budgets and advise the Director of Social Services with respect to any current year deviations from expenditure plan as well as coming year projected budget requirements.
- Approve leave applications and ensure that responsibilities are transferred to other staff as required.
- Ensure the information system is accurate and continuously updated with respect to resources developed and program data.
- Keeping up to date files on staff.
- Complete staff performance appraisal process, which includes conducting annual staff evaluations.
- COMMUNICATIONS AND LIAISON
- Role model as the Manager the highest standards of service consistent with Six Nations Social Services principles and policy in working with the children and families facing difficulties.
- Provide direction, leadership, assistance, coaching, and on-going feedback, (based on an open-door approach, staff performance, staff performance planning, as well as regular staff meetings) to unit staff in their execution of their responsibilities.
- Facilitate team development in order to create an effective, cohesive group of individuals who work together with commitment to reach the unit goals.
- Facilitate team approaches to resolving such issues, conflicts, and problems that may arise in the process of providing support services.
- Ensure that staff remain current with any changes to policies, legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
- Assist staff with the development of individual work plans, assign unit responsibilities to staff, and ensure responsibilities are consistent with the unit and departmental plans.
- Monitor and identify shifts in community needs.
- Involve staff in decision making with respect to unit problem solving, planning, and development.
- Conduct a staff performance appraisal process, which includes conducting annual staff evaluation and orientating new staff to the Six Nations Social Services mission statement, values, principles, and the responsibilities of their position.
- Participate in regularly scheduled and ad hoc team meetings.
- Deliver workshops and seminars and attend/participate in community events when required.
- Ensure that the interagency protocols are consistent with Six Nations service principles.
- Work respectfully and effectively with children, families, and other community members.
- Effectively interpret and respond to community needs.
- Effectively network with other agencies for programming needs of the community.
- Participate in team development and team approaches to problem solving.
- OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Any duties as assigned by the Director of Social Services or designate which includes, but is not limited to, participation in the Tragic Events Response Team, Six Nations Community Emergency Measures Plan, and Crisis Services.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves mental stress; requires interaction with the public, staff, subject to deadlines, interruptions, and unscheduled hours to address immediate client risk; flexibility to work evening and weekend hours; ability to take direction prioritize and work independently. Constant travel in and outside of the community using own transportation, with possibility of air travel to attend joint meetings with the Ministry and other First Nations.

- Must be able to work as a team player with Six Nations Social Services,
- Receives direction and guidance. Discusses plans and priorities, and interacts to ensure tasks are done efficiently and effectively; receives instruction and supervision.
- With the other agencies:
- Provides information and assistance. Works in a cooperative and courteous manner.
- With the Community:
- Represents and promotes Six Nations Council and the Social Services Department in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner.
- Familiar with Six Nations Council, Health and Safety and Financial management policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

IMPACT OF ERROR:
Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to jeopardizing of program funding, loss of credibility, poor public relations, and public confusion, serious impacts on clients and staff, and legal liability to self and to Six Nations Council.
CONTROL:
- Works within the organizational structure and administrative policy and procedures established by the Six Nations of the Grand River Employment Policy.
- Works within the Six Nations of the Grand River Social Services values, principles, and mission statement, and the policies as set by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.
- Works within the policies and procedures established through service contracts by Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council and the funding agency (Ministry of Children and Youth Services and other legislative acts).
- In addition to adhering to Six Nations of the Grand River personnel policies, Six Nations of the Grand River Social Services values, principles, and mission statement also must comply with any legislation, directives, standards, and procedures, issued by the relevant government ministries (reconciliation focus and align with the principles of the Ontario Indigenous Child and Youth Strategy).
