We invite applications for a permanent full-time opportunity at St. Andrew's College as Head of University Counselling.

St. Andrew's College seeks a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated Head of University Counselling to lead the University Counselling Department. As an integral administration team member, the Head of University Counselling will provide personalized, strategic guidance to students and their families in navigating the complex university admissions process.

The Head will play a pivotal role in guiding students toward their best-fit post-secondary pathways, with a focus on both Canadian and international university applications. This includes expertise in the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC), SAT prep, and entrance requirements for Division 1, 2, and 3 schools in North America and abroad. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of university admissions processes, a passion for student success, and a commitment to providing a proactive and customized experience for each student.

Key Responsibilities:

• University Admissions Guidance: Lead, manage, and advise students and families through every aspect of the university application process, including researching universities, understanding entrance requirements and deadlines, and crafting competitive applications.
• Customizing Student Experience: Provide personalized, one-on-one support to students and their families, ensuring their unique academic, extracurricular, and personal strengths are highlighted and well-suited for their program of study.
• International University Network: Maintain strong relationships with a broad network of international universities and their admissions offices, staying current on trends and changes in international university entry requirements.
• Expert Knowledge of the OUAC Process: Guide students through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) application process, including ensuring accurate submission of all required materials in accordance with deadlines.
• Standardized Testing: Provide leadership in SAT/ACT preparation and coordinate testing schedules while advising how test scores impact admissions to various schools and divisions.
• Divisional Admissions Expertise: Stay abreast of the admissions processes for Division 1, 2, and 3 universities and understand the nuances of each to advise students accordingly.
• Parent and Community Engagement: Regularly communicate with parents and organize workshops and informational sessions on university application timelines, trends, and the changing landscape of post-secondary education.
• Collaboration and Team Leadership: Work closely with the academic team to align students' course choices with their university aspirations. Lead and support a team of university counselling staff to ensure seamless, high-quality service for all students.
• Professional Development: Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and professional events to stay informed of changes in university admissions and counselling. Provide faculty with training on supporting student applications through professional reference letters and editing personal statements/supplementals.
• Ministry of Education and AP Coordination: Knowledge of the Ministry of Education policies and procedures to inform the timetable, course selection, and graduation requirements. Oversight of Advancement Placement coordination.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in university counselling, preferably at an independent preparatory school.
• Strong network of contacts within international universities and comprehensive knowledge of their admissions requirements.
• In-depth familiarity with the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) and related Canadian post-secondary applications.
• Expertise in SAT/ACT preparation and university entrance requirements for Division 1, 2, and 3 institutions.
• Proven experience in providing individualized, student-focused university planning and advising.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage and build relationships with students, parents, faculty, and university admissions representatives.
• A Bachelor's degree, B.Ed., Guidance Counselling qualifications, or a related field is required.
• Advancement Placement coordination.
• Strong written communications to support student supplemental applications.
• Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and take initiative while collaborating effectively within a team.
