Construction Technician Project Coordinator

Job Responsibility:

Whissell is looking for a Project Coordinator to ensure the smooth operation of construction projects by coordinating activities, resources, equipment, and information by assisting the Project Manager and liaising with the project Owner/General Contractor's site representative. This position is part of our Calgary team but project assignments are remote and based in the rural Southern Alberta region.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Maintain a complete record of construction activities on site and complete daily reports.
• Maintain and post schedule on site, coordinate and monitor activities in relation to the schedule and advise management of impacts.
• Work closely with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent to develop and execute the work in a planned manner.
• Post Daily Reports, photos, and payroll records in Drop Box.
• Be knowledgeable and up to date with contract, drawings, and specifications for the project.
• Track and record labour, equipment, materials, and services utilized on extra work for signing by the Owner's or General Contractor representative for payment purposes.
• Coordinate and oversee subcontracts.
• Coordinate procurement of quotes and order materials for the site through POs.
• Maintain daily photographic record of construction activities.
• Monitor site for compliance with health and safety requirements and advise management of any concerns.
• Maintain site safety records and all relevant documentation for compliance.
• Coordinate safety training in liaison with Company Safety department.
• Arrange for utility stakeouts as required and maintain records of same.
• Record changes in the construction for as built drawings.
• Prepare monthly progress report for billing by the Project Manager.
• Emphasize safety as a number one value of Whissell including ensuring that safety policies and safe work methods are implemented at the jobsite.
• Have a thorough knowledge of the plans and specifications of the project.
• Develop, monitor, update and communicate the schedule progress.
• Be responsible for tracking actual production quantities and costs and reporting them to the Project Manager
• Oversee Coordinate all field correspondence/site documentation to the Owner, Engineers, Subcontractors, Vendors, etc.
• Work with superintendent/foreman to ensure that deliveries are expedited and coordinated.
• Coordinate changes to the contract including communication with superintendent/supervisor and ensure documentation is updated.
• Project scheduling, including three weeks look ahead schedules.
• Immediately stop and correct safety and/or environmental violations or infractions
• Manage subcontract schedules and monitor quality of work.
• Establish and maintain a professional relationship with the Owner, Project Engineers, local businesses, and police and fire departments.
• Gather and review daily jobsite reports.
• Compile productivity factors from field reporting, compare the actual to expected production factors and report back to Superintendents, Foremen and Project Managers.
• Compile and track quantities and costs; documents, plan revisions, Change Orders and all other paperwork required on the project.
• Maintain project files.
• Other admin duties may include assisting with pre-qualifications, tender estimates, and the development of equipment and tunnelling procedures as required.

Qualifications

• A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology required.
• Registration with APEGA is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in construction project coordination/management.
• Job site experience in heavy construction, micro-tunnel construction in rock, soft ground and mixed conditions and renewable energy including wind and solar construction.
• The ability to work with a wide variety of construction trades, engineers, inspectors, owners, and utility representatives.
• Proficiency in computer software in everyday use in construction: Word, Excel, MS Project Manger, CAD, Adobe.
• Proficiency in B2W unified software, including, B2W Estimate, Schedule, Track and Maintain.
• Demonstrated experience reading and understanding blueprints, specifications, schedules and costing reports.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of construction process, environmental regulations, design, and constructability.
• Exceptional communication skills to efficiently interact with employees, clients, authorities and maintain clear and concise site documentation.
• A valid driver's license to go to job sites away from public transit.

Working Conditions:

Environmental:

• On site exposure to inclement weather such as extreme heat or cold seasonally, dust, other allergens, or chemicals
• Repetitive tasks such as reading and analyzing information on a computer and typing.

Travel Expectations:

• Travel to and from various site locations is required throughout the year.
• Travel 80% of time
• A valid class 5 provincial driver's license is required

Physical Requirements:

• Basic mobility to walk, stand and drive is required.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
