Role Overview
The Edmonton Employment Resource Centre (EERC) applies integrity and subject matter expertise to talent-matching and employment retention services to support engaged, inclusive workplaces. We assist job-seekers to overcome barriers and occupy meaningful employment roles while building employer capacity for diversity and inclusion.
The Career & Inclusion Consultant’s function is to engage people with disabilities in exploration, planning and learning around career development to facilitate identification of job targets and sustainable employment outcomes. This position is ‘teamed’ with the Workplace Inclusion Strategist position to facilitate outcomes. Caseload management, communication and collaboration are essential.
Please note this is a full-time temporary leave of absence contract. This recruitment is being conducted to support workforce planning related to an approved leave of absence. The duration of this temporary assignment is a minimum of 3 months and subject to change. Candidates who participate in the recruitment process may also be considered for other current or future opportunities for which they are qualified.
Direct Duties
Pre-Employment (Approx. 55%)
- Discover / understand their unique interests, values, and aptitudes in relation to career choices
- Understand stages of change and related motivational, anxiety or ‘readiness’ issues
- Engage in goal setting, career planning, and informed decision making
- Participate in the development of professional-quality resumes and cover letters
- Build capacity with regard to job search strategies and interview skills
- Mitigate barriers using existing supports and community resources/options
- Related administrative tasks: file keeping, information distribution, team meetings, etc.
- Build trust with participants using trauma informed and culturally safe practices.
- Co create individualized Career Action Plans that include life stability goals and employment goals.
- Support participants in identifying life stability barriers such as housing instability, mental health challenges, addictions, food insecurity, transportation, childcare and documentation needs.
- Deliver individualized employment readiness support including resume development, cover letter support, interview preparation, job search strategies, networking, workplace expectations, communication skills and labour market literacy.
- Support participants in understanding job expectations and navigating decisions related to accommodation, disclosure and workplace success.
- Help participants access Exposure Courses and Employment Supports by confirming eligibility, discussing their purpose and reinforcing skill application.
- Support participants during Work Based Learning or simulation modules by reinforcing transferable skills and coaching confidence, communication and workplace behaviours.
- Conduct check-ins for employed participants at 90, 180 and 365 day intervals.
- Identify emerging barriers at any stage of the journey and collaborate with the Service Navigator to coordinate wraparound supports.
Post Placement Support (Approx. 20%)
- Coaching work requirements, culture, as well as rights and responsibilities
- Coaching and connecting participants with natural supports in their work environment
- Support employer/employee with strategies and resources to meet goals and expectations
- Promoting inclusion through participation in story-telling and communications
- Facilitate group learning around self-discovery, career planning and workplace culture
- Support employers to build capacity around healthy, diverse and inclusive workplaces
Resource Centre (Approx. 15%)
- Provide scheduled coverage assisting Resource Centre participants with resumes, job search, interview preparation and navigating the centres resources.
- Up to date labour market information and resources to support participants in identifying, preparing for and pursuing their employment goals, and the ability to stay informed so you can direct participants to relevant opportunities and share current labour market insights with them.
- Help Resource Centre users understand eligibility for Exposure Courses, Employment Supports and Workforce Development Services.
- Ensure accessibility of materials, plain language communication and trauma informed interactions for walk in participants.
Administrative (Approx. 10%)
- Maintain accurate, timely and detailed case notes in the Government of Alberta’s CRM system, Compass, including all participant interactions, milestones, workshop attendance, goal progression, and service outcomes.
- Record retention follow up activities at 90, 180 and 365 days and maintain clear documentation of employment status, stability and ongoing support needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard participant information in accordance with the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and program policy.
- Collaborate with the Service Navigator and Workplace Inclusion Strategist through shared documentation and coordinated updates to maintain consistent and accurate participant files.
- Support preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting through accurate Compass entries, outcome verification and data integrity checks.
The Commitment
- A temporary leave of absence coverage contract, minimum 3 months but subject to change.
- Full-time permanent position working 37.5 hours/week. We believe in work life balance and are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked.

What You Can Bring to Gateway
Education & Experience
- 1-3 years experience working in a career development practitioner or employment services role such as a Career & Inclusion Consultant, Career Advisor, Job Developer, or Job Coach
- Experience working with the public (particularly families, people with disabilities and youth)
- Education or experience in human services, community development or career development
- Education or experience with the Microsoft 365 (Outlook, SharePoint, Bookings, Teams, Word, etc.)
- Lived experience related to disability, barriers to employment, community inclusion, or advocacy are valued
Knowledge & Skills
- Exceptional communication skills and a strong desire to work collaboratively
- Professional ethics, specifically pertaining to service access, power dynamics, confidentiality
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
- Professional ethics related to confidentiality, boundaries, dignity, informed choice, and participant autonomy
Equity & Inclusion
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Foundational understanding of anti-racism principles, structural oppression, and related terminology (desirable; training provided).
Additional Requirements
- Applicant must primarily reside in and work from Edmonton (or greater surrounding area)
- Offer of employment conditional upon a satisfactory Police Information Background Check
- Must have access to personal vehicle for work-related purposes and provide satisfactory evidence of valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of third-party liability insurance
- New hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary Range: $66,000 - $72,000
- Benefits: not initially eligible, but subject to change based on extension
- Paid Time Off (note hours accrued based on actual hours worked): Prorated 15 vacation days, 9 personal days, and an extended winter break (if applicable)
- Schedule: Flexible family-friendly schedule
Work Conditions
- Responsibilities: Administrative computer work, travel for events within Alberta, travel within Edmonton to connect with various community partners, frequent communication (calls, email, video conferencing, meetings, etc.) with participants and other stakeholders
- Hybrid Work Model: Combination of office, home, and community settings. Although this role follows a hybrid work model, employees will be required to work some in-office hours to help staff the drop-in resource centre, which includes workshops, services, and participant support.
