The Role

The Construction Technology Specialist bridges construction operations and technology by ensuring field teams have the systems, devices, connectivity, training, and support required to effectively use DILFO’s approved construction technologies.

Reporting to the Operations Manager and working closely with IT, the role supports construction applications, field devices, jobsite connectivity, project mobilization, and technology adoption within established IT security, hardware, ticketing, and governance standards. The role serves as the primary operational liaison between construction teams and IT for field technology requirements.

Keys Tasks

The Construction Technology Specialist’s duties include, but are not limited to:

Field Technology & Site Support

• Provide responsive, site-based support for construction applications, field devices, printers, hotspots, jobsite connectivity, and related technology.


• Troubleshoot hardware, software, access, configuration, connectivity, and workflow issues, escalating matters to IT or vendors as appropriate.


• Track and manage construction technology requests through the established IT ticketing process.


• Configure and support field tablets, laptops, printers, scanners, monitors, hotspots, and related equipment.


• Maintain regular site presence across active projects, prioritizing new, high-risk, or operationally impacted projects.


• Immediately escalate cybersecurity incidents, lost devices, suspicious activity, or potential data breaches to IT.

Project Technology Readiness

• Coordinate construction technology requirements for new project mobilizations using established readiness standards and checklists.


• Prepare devices, applications, licences, permissions, connectivity, and field-office technology before mobilization.


• Confirm technology readiness with Project Managers and Superintendents and identify outstanding risks or support requirements.


• Provide ongoing support as project technology requirements change throughout construction.

Training & Field Enablement

• Provide technology onboarding and practical training for Foremen, Superintendents, project teams, and other construction personnel.


• Develop and maintain practical user guides, videos, SOPs, and other training resources.


• Coach users on the effective use of approved technology and identify recurring training or adoption needs.


• Coordinate and support field testing, pilots, rollout, and adoption of approved construction technologies.

Construction Platform Administration

• Support and administer DILFO’s approved construction technology platforms.


• Manage routine user access, permissions, licences, and platform settings within established IT and security standards.


• Participate in access reviews and software audits and coordinate routine vendor support.


• Escalate significant platform, security, cost, contractual, or performance concerns through the Operations Manager and/or IT as appropriate.

Technology Adoption & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor technology usage, support requests, and recurring issues to identify opportunities to improve training, workflows, configuration, hardware, or connectivity.


• Recommend practical improvements that support field productivity and project execution.


• Support the operational implementation and testing of approved construction technology integrations in collaboration with IT and other system owners.


• Identify opportunities to improve technology-enabled workflows between field operations, project teams, VDC, and fabrication.


• Document and standardize successful field practices and report on technology readiness, adoption, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.

Education

• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Information Systems, Building Technology, Computer Systems Technology, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.


• Valid Class G driver's licence and ability to travel regularly to project locations.


• Training in construction technology, software implementation, adult learning, change management, or continuous improvement is considered an asset.

Experience

• Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in construction operations, construction technology, project coordination, VDC, software implementation or support, or a related field.


• Experience supporting construction field teams and technology across multiple projects.


• Experience troubleshooting construction applications, field technology, and connectivity and providing practical user training and support.

Knowledge and Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of construction operations, field workflows, and project mobilization.


• Working knowledge of ProjectSight, RIVET, Traqspera, Trimble Connect, Microsoft 365, or comparable construction technology platforms.


• Ability to administer construction platforms and troubleshoot field devices, applications, user access, and connectivity.


• Ability to develop practical documentation, training materials, and user instructions.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Frequent travel to active construction sites and project locations within Ottawa and the surrounding area.


• Ability to work safely in active construction environments, including walking through unfinished areas, mechanical rooms, and rooftops and climbing stairs or ladders.


• Required use of personal protective equipment while on active construction sites.


• Occasional lifting, carrying, and setup of technology equipment weighing up to approximately 25 lbs (11 kg).
