A friend for Ana

About the Role : We are looking for a kind, patient, and reliable person to spend time with our 19-year-old daughter and provide companionship, support, and opportunities for her to enjoy activities outside of the home. She is autistic and nonverbal, but she communicates her wants and needs in her own way. She is able to let others know when she wants something and her personality really shines through once she is comfortable with someone. She loves music, dancing, going for walks or runs, and getting out into the community. Because we all work part or full-time jobs, we're looking for someone who can consistently spend quality time with her, help her explore her interests, and create enjoyable experiences outside the home. While she does not require constant hands-on assistance, she benefits from encouragement, structure, and someone who can keep her engaged throughout the day. Responsibilities : Spend one-on-one time with her in a positive and engaging way. Take her on walks, runs, drives, or community outings. Encourage activities she enjoys, including music, dancing, parks, and recreational activities. Support her in maintaining a fun, active routine. Provide supervision during outings and at home when needed. Help reinforce routines and provide gentle guidance throughout the day. Offer companionship while respecting her independence. Communicate with family about how the day went and any concerns. About Her : She is generally friendly, affectionate, and enjoys having fun. She likes staying active and thrives when she has opportunities to get out of the house and do things she enjoys. She also takes pride in helping around the house by unloading the dishwasher and cleaning up after herself. Like many autistic individuals, she can occasionally become overwhelmed or frustrated. During these moments, she may engage in self-injurious behaviors or have emotional outbursts. Aggression toward others is uncommon, but it's important that the person supporting her remains calm, patient, and confident while helping her regulate and ensuring her safety. Experience supporting individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is an asset, but a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and genuine compassion are just as important. Ideal Candidate: We're looking for someone who is... Patient, kind, and dependable. Comfortable supporting someone with autism. Calm under pressure and able to respond thoughtfully during challenging moments. A strong communicator with both our family and our sister. Comfortable encouraging independence while providing support when needed. Previous experience in caregiving, developmental services, education, recreation, or nursing. Schedule: Hours are flexible and can be discussed based on availability. We are looking for someone who can provide consistent support on a part-time basis, including some evenings, but mostly afternoons.
