Position Description
The Technical Lead – Impacted Sites provides daily oversight and direction to a small group of technical individuals carrying out phased environmental site assessments and remediation projects across the Prairie Provinces, with a primary focus on Saskatchewan and Alberta with an average individual price of less than $100,000. In this role, the selected candidate will be expected to act in both a technical and administrative capacity, monitoring project and team budgets, identifying key hires and strategic moves, and supporting client interactions and relationships.
The selected candidate will be expected to take a leading role in the acquiring, execution and management of technical assignments, including Phase I/ II/ III Environmental Site Assessments, Corrective Action Plans, Closure/ Status Reports at contaminated sites in accordance with the applicable chapters of the Saskatchewan Environmental Code and/or Canadian Standards Association. In this role, the successful candidate must be able to communicate and provide clear direction to junior and intermediate staff and communicate with corporate directors and C-suite level executives.
Subject to past experiences and areas of interest, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide support on projects from Omni-McCann’s civil and geotechnical engineering portfolio.
This position works collaboratively with Omni-McCann’s project delivery team based out of Saskatoon and Edmonton providing project support in a primarily office-based setting. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in projects of varying size and complexity and can expect to be involved in five or more projects at any given time.
Occasional field work and/or travel in support of projects in other jurisdictions (e.g. Alberta, Ontario, etc.) may be required but will not be a regular component of the position.
Technical duties may include:
- Managing and coordinating environmental field investigations or monitoring events, including coordination and oversight of subcontractors.
- Development of technical reports and deliverables, including using standardized and individualized report templates.
- Monitoring and control of project financial and time budgets.
- Review, compile and validate field and analytical data.
- Environmental regulatory review and application.
- Client and regulatory liaison.
Operational duties may include:
- Supporting the development of client relationships through contributions to the development of technical and financial proposals and participation in client meetings/ presentations.
- Mentorship and direct oversight of junior project team members.
- Supporting the development of corporate guidance documents, as requested by members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of physical science, engineering and/or environmental-related college or university level studies.
- Minimum three years’ experience in directly related areas of practice in western Canada, including experience conducting and overseeing the investigation of soil and groundwater.
- Experience in the assessment of soil vapour, landfill gas, and/or indoor air quality is considered an asset.
- Eligibility for Professional Designation (i.e. P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., etc.) meeting the requirements to act as a Qualified Person under the Saskatchewan Environmental Code (e.g., Site Assessment and Corrective Action Plan code chapters) is considered an asset. Candidates eligible for professional designation within two years are preferred.
- Understanding of the Saskatchewan Environmental Code required.
- Understanding of the Canadian Standards Association Standards for Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments required.
- Previous experience in contaminated sites assessment/remediation in Saskatchewan is preferred. Experience in other jurisdictions of Canada is considered an asset but not required as the primary regional focus of work will be in Saskatchewan.
- Experience in other consulting fields offered by Omni-McCann (e.g. geotechnical/ civil engineering) considered an asset.
- The successful candidate should have strong communication skills and the ability to work on project tasks independently.
- Candidates will be required to demonstrate their understanding of their technical and written communication skills as part of the interview process.
Additional Information
Reliable transportation (i.e., private vehicle) is required for this position. Personal vehicles may occasionally be required for travel to various job sites. The vehicle must be insured pursuant to the requirements of the province of Saskatchewan and in consideration of the use of your vehicle for work purposes.
This position is based out of Omni-McCann’s Saskatoon office but will require occasional travel throughout Saskatchewan, with infrequent travel throughout Western and Central Canada possible. The successful candidate will be expected to work in the office or the job site full time for at least 6 months, at which point potential hybrid work arrangements may be possible, subject to approval.
This is a salaried position based on a 40-hour work week. Overtime compensation and travel/per diem is provided in accordance with applicable legislation and company policies.
The candidate must be willing and able to:
- work outdoors for extended periods in rough terrain and harsh elements
- lift independently up to a maximum of 50 lbs
- work extended hours or outside of standard office hours, as required
