Incoming Material Quality Specialist

Job Responsibility:

Welcome to Black Fly Beverage - we are a fast-growing producer of spirit-based beverages and provider of value-added services to the beverage industry.

Job Summary:

The Incoming Material Quality Specialist is responsible for inspecting incoming ingredients and reviewing Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) to ensure compliance with company specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining product quality and safety by verifying that raw materials meet established criteria before being released for production.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Raw Material Inspection & CoA Review

· Review incoming raw material CoAs against company specifications.

· Verify test results for identity, potency, purity, and contaminants (e.g., microbial, heavy metals, allergens).

· Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, CFIA, USDA, GMP, HACCP).

· Conduct visual and physical inspections of raw materials for defects, contamination, or deviations.

· Work with suppliers to resolve CoA discrepancies or missing documentation.

2. Documentation & Compliance

· Maintain accurate records of material inspections and CoA approvals.

· Ensure raw materials meet internal quality standards before being accepted into inventory.

· Document and report non-conforming materials and assist in investigations.

· Work with the procurement and quality teams to update material specifications.

3. Collaboration & Communication

· Coordinate with Purchasing, Production, and Quality Assurance teams regarding material acceptance or rejection.

· Communicate issues related to supplier performance and compliance.

· Participate in supplier audits and provide feedback on raw material quality trends.

4. Inventory Control & Storage

· Ensure proper labeling and storage of accepted raw materials.

· Support FIFO (First-In, First-Out) practices to maintain material integrity.

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Education: High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred.

· Experience: 1-3 years in quality control, raw material inspection, or a similar role in food, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.

Technical Skills:

· Familiarity with CoA documentation and regulatory compliance.

· Understanding of GMP, HACCP, FDA, and industry-specific guidelines.

· Basic laboratory testing knowledge is a plus.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and ERP systems.

· Forklift license is a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

· Work in a warehouse, laboratory, or manufacturing setting.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

· Exposure to various raw materials, including powders, liquids, and chemicals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00-$30.00 per hour
