What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Web Developer, the incumbent will work with subject matter experts and project teams across the WSIB to develop, test and improve our websites and web-based solutions and enhancements. The incumbent will also play a key role in implementing these solutions, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement. This position is part of a dynamic team whose responsibilities impact all facets of communications (editing, employee communications, media relations, graphic design, social media, and video production); and will work in partnership with each of these groups to develop tactics to support the organization in achieving its strategic objectives.

How do I qualify?

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Develop, maintain and improve WSIB websites including:

• front and back-end programming languages such HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP and MySQL
• Website Content management systems (CMS), such as Drupal
• web design
• REST APIs
• maintaining code integrity and organization
• web applications, security, session management, and best development practices
• building web forms and website wizards
• DNS/Domain management
• Google apps scripts

2. Setting up and using Google Analytics to identify trends, usage patterns and provide recommendations to management on process and technical improvements. 3. Assist in website planning with mockups and wireframes 4. Translate business requirements into innovative features for web-based solutions 5. Provide strategic advice to business partners throughout the WSIB about how our website(s) can support business objectives. 6. Follow industry trends to provide input on website development strategies and opportunities. Maintain proficiency and skill with all software upgrades and new software as they are released and stay current with new and emerging web development best practices and programming 7. Providing technical support and troubleshooting web application issues 8. Create and follow user interface standards for usability and accessibility to meet mandated legal requirements such as AODA, Privacy, security and the French Language Services Act 9. Support the integrity of the WSIB's websites by developing and implementing systems, tools, standards, strategies and guidelines, ensuring that best practices are consistently applied through monitoring and quality control of the Content Management System (CMS) during all phases of the content lifecycle. 10. Maintain knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, WSIB Operational Policies and Procedures, Employer Classification Manual, New Service Delivery Model, Ontarians with Disabilities Act and accessibility and usability standards and best practices of web usability and publishing theory, practice and technology. 11. Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Education:

• University completion at the undergraduate level with a specialty focus in one of the following: Computers Science, Information Technology, Web Design, Web Development/Programming, Interactive Media Design/Development or Software Development.

Experience:

• Four years prior experience in web development using various web platforms and programming languages.
