WHO WE NEED
As the Manager, Retail Buying and Business Operations, you will lead our retail product buying and business operations team. You will ensure our retail offerings align with ROM’s curatorial initiatives, support the museum’s goals, and cater to a diverse audience. Your role will be pivotal in enhancing our retail operations and exceeding budget targets.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Research product categories that complement ROM's curatorial initiatives and strategic plan.
Monitor store sales, product margins, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure retail operations meet and exceed budget targets.
Use tact and diplomacy when dealing with independent and community-based artists and suppliers.
Successfully negotiate product purchases from online multi-vendor sites, in-person suppliers, independent artists, and community artist collectives.
Collaborate with other ROM departments to ensure product categories and stories are aligned with cross-departmental initiatives.
Work with retail team members to ensure product supply meets shopper and seasonal demand, as well as exhibit and gallery merchandise story demand.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

University degree in retail business or supply management, with certification in supply chain procurement.
Minimum of ten years of related management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven experience as a manager in retail business operations or a relevant role.
Outstanding oral and written communication and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Demonstrated skills in staff team management.
Proven ability in effective facilitation and negotiation with suppliers and artists.
Familiarity with current purchasing and retail business operations best practices.
Strong experience with market research, data analysis, and forecasting techniques.
Extensive experience in managing Shopify E-commerce business operations, ensuring seamless integration of online and in-store retail strategies.
Excellent knowledge of MS Office and working knowledge of purchasing software (e.g., Shopify Plus and purchasing apps).
Strong experience in developing and controlling budgets for retail store product purchasing and business operations.
Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, based on retail business operations, inventory taking, seasonal peak product buying, museum visitation, and deadlines.
French language knowledge would be an asset.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN OUR INTERVIEW PROCESS

Initial conversation: A 30-minute virtual conversation** with a Recruiter to discuss your interest in the role and ROM and how you can make an impact.
First interview: A 1-hour in-person or virtual interview with the Hiring Manager and a member of the HR team. This interview will focus on your skills and how they align with the team's and ROM's needs.
Second interview: A 1-hour in-person meeting with the Hiring Manager and relevant team members. You may be asked to present a pre-assigned case study and discuss scenarios relevant to your role. Depending on the position, you might also be given a tour of ROM and receive a preview of your responsibilities and interactions.
