Inventory Control & Planning Specialist

The Inventory Control & Planning Specialist has two connected mandates. In its inventory control capacity, the role serves as the human control layer that ensures our inventory systems remain accurate, disciplined, and compliant as the business continues to grow and moves towards eventual ERP implementation. The position is responsible for verifying inventory transactions, reconciling activity across shifts, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and maintaining the integrity of inventory records through consistent controls and disciplined execution. As the planning function, the role translates demand into a feasible production plan, owns line capacity and waste, and serves as the site subject matter expert for planning. The two mandates reinforce each other: accurate inventory is the foundation of a reliable plan.

Key Responsibilities: Inventory Control

1. Ensure inventory transactions are correct and reconcile across shift handoffs, so activity recorded on one shift ties out accurately to the next.

2. Verify transaction accuracy by working through the Raw Material, WIP, and Finished Goods inventory spreadsheets on an ongoing basis.

3. Identify and report deviations; provide feedback to the Operations Manager for corrective action, and close out nonconformances raised against the operations team.

4. Act as the in house subject matter expert (SME) for the inventory process.

5. Map and document inventory processes so they are clear, repeatable, and audit ready.

6. Provide feedback to the Operations Manager and help train operators when the defined process is not being followed, reinforcing FIFO, FEFO, and inventory controls.

7. Provide recommendations to improve the inventory system and its controls, including readiness for a future ERP.

8. Support and verify that manual transactions are registered correctly and completely.

Key Responsibilities: Planning

1. Build and own the production plan: translate purchase orders (POs), delivery timelines, and inventory positions (on hand raw, WIP, and FG) into a realistic, prioritized production schedule.

2. Own line capacity planning: maintain standard run rates and the capacity model, level load production across rooms and lines to available capacity, and flag bottlenecks and over or under utilization.

3. Own line waste: track waste by line and product, investigate root causes, and drive waste toward target (waste % and waste cost).

4. Verify material availability and shortage risk: confirm POs and lead times cover the plan, so production is neither starved of material nor overbuilt.

5. Act as the site subject matter expert (SME) for planning, and report plan attainment and schedule adherence.

Required Qualifications

• Post secondary education in supply chain, operations, planning, business, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• 3 to 5 years in inventory control or production planning within a manufacturing environment.

• Strong spreadsheet skills (Excel and Google Sheets): formulas, lookups, and reconciling and modelling data confidently.

• Experience with production scheduling or capacity planning.

• Exceptional attention to detail and the discipline to perform repetitive verification reliably.

• Clear communication for reporting deviations, presenting plans, and training operators.

• Comfortable on site in a production environment and coordinating across multiple shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cannabis, excise, pharmaceutical, food, or other regulated goods inventory (an asset; not required, trainable on the job).

• Exposure to GPP/GMP, quality, or compliance environments.

• Familiarity with FIFO, FEFO, cycle counting, capacity and utilization modelling, and waste reduction.

• Experience contributing to an ERP or planning system implementation.

Working Conditions

On site role in a cannabis edibles manufacturing facility. Requires movement across production and storage areas and coordination with operations across shifts; some schedule flexibility may be needed to verify transactions spanning shift changes. Adherence to all GPP/GMP, safety, and regulatory requirements is expected.
