Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Services (DOS) is responsible for the overall direction, effective functioning, planning and delivery of programs and services within their assigned City and Community unit. The DOS provides leadership, supervision and oversight to Unit Supervisors and is responsible for ensuring effective service delivery to children and families.

The DOS ensures services are provided in accordance with applicable provincial and federal legislation, standards, regulations, Agency policies and procedures, and that programs and services reflect the traditions, values, customs and standards of SECFS and the communities we serve.

Successful candidate will be assigned responsibility for a City and Community unit based on Agency operational requirements. Community assignments may include both road-accessible and fly-in communities. Assigned units and/or program responsibilities may change from time to time based on Agency needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

·       Five (5) years of supervisory experience and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited university with five (5) years of front-line experience; or a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an accredited university with eight (8) years of front-line experience; or a related degree from an accredited university with ten (10) years of related experience.

·       Demonstrated ability to influence and facilitate group decision-making, establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, management, staff, leadership and external organizations, and provide leadership to remote teams. Experience mentoring, developing, coaching and training staff is required.

·       Ability and willingness to travel regularly to assigned SECFS communities, including remote and fly-in communities, as required.

·       Demonstrated experience contributing to organizational and strategic planning, with the ability to adapt to changing operational requirements, including oversight of additional programs or units as required.

·       Strong knowledge of CFSIS, applicable child and family services legislation, standards, regulations, policies and procedures, with the ability to explain requirements and provide leadership to ensure compliance throughout the assigned unit(s).

·       Demonstrated ability to manage conflict effectively, communicate difficult or sensitive information, actively listen, facilitate consultation and resolve problems involving staff, clients, families and collateral organizations. Strong understanding of group dynamics and conflict resolution practices is required.

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience preparing case management documentation, correspondence, briefing notes and reports, as well as delivering presentations, training and clear direction regarding work expectations and responsibilities.

·       Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience, including providing direction, support, guidance, coaching, performance management and professional development to supervisory staff and multidisciplinary teams.

·       Ability and willingness to work outside regular working hours, including evenings and weekends, as required to meet operational needs and participate in Agency or community activities.

·       Knowledge of and/or experience working with the Southeast First Nations, including demonstrated experience working with Chief and Council, community members, families and children.

·       Demonstrated understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, political and economic context within which SECFS operates, including current issues and trends affecting the Agency, its communities, children and families. The ability to speak Ojibway is considered a strong asset.
