Field Engineer

Initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension to 12 months, Full-timeTravel Up to 50% across BC & CanadaSalary 90k to 120k per annumThe Field Engineer supports design review, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting on bus depot, commercial fleet, and shore power electrification projects;
a hands‑on role spanning design, construction, and operations.Key Responsibilities
Design Support
Support design preparation for bus depot, commercial fleet, and shore power electrification sitesReview designs and equipment selections from a constructability, reliability, and O&M perspectiveProvide input on equipment protection schemes to support safe, reliable operation, incl protection studiesManage design changes during construction, including preparing and interpreting drawings, tracking red/green marks, managing cable and conduit schedulesSupport Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for major electrical equipment, including chargers, switchgear, transformers, and BESSPrepare Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures for major electrical equipmentSupervise OEM commissioning activities on siteSupervise and support electrical contractor installation and testingPerform and/or oversee standard electrical tests, including megger (insulation resistance), hipot (dielectric withstand), and transformer/switchgear testingApply working knowledge of protective relay settings and protection coordination including testing and setting of such devicesSupport point-to-point testing and communications functional checksSupport charger commissioning — training provided;
existing Level 2 or Level 3 charger commissioning experience or certification is an assetOperations Support
Support troubleshooting of electrical equipment and site assets — chargers, switchgear, transformers, BESS — primarily from an electrical and hardware standpointDiagnose issues involving fuses, breakers, and other protective devicesSupport troubleshooting of communications between site assets and monitoring/control systemsLiaise with OEMs and contractors on warranty and service issues as neededQualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline), an Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, or certification as an electrician with equivalent, suitable experience5+ years in electrical field engineering, testing/commissioning, or a similar hands‑on role, with a proven ability to troubleshoot a variety of electrical equipmentWorking knowledge of MV/LV electrical systems, switchgear, and transformersUnderstanding of protective relay settings and protection coordination principles;
experience preparing protection studies is an assetFamiliarity with standard electrical test equipment (e.G., megger, hipot)Understanding of protection devices (fuses, breakers, etc.) and site communications/control systemsStrong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across internal engineering/PM teams, OEMs, and electrical contractorsComfortable working on active construction sites and in operating electrical environments, following all applicable safety protocols and PPE requirementsValid driver's licenceWillingness to travel to project sites across Canada, up to 50% of the timeLegally entitled to work in CanadaFluency in English, written and spokenNice to Have
