Second Cup Barista - Dalhousie

We are seeking a Second Cup Barista to join our team at the Second Cup in the Killam Library at Dalhousie University! As a Second Cup Barista, you’ll be at the heart of our café. You’ll craft high-quality espresso drinks, share your passion for premium teas and specialty beverages, and create a warm, welcoming environment for our local community.

Whether you're a seasoned coffee enthusiast or looking to learn the art of espresso, we provide hands-on training to help you succeed.

Job Responsibilities

• Craft Quality Beverages: Prepare espresso drinks, iced beverages, teas, and specialty creations to Second Cup recipe and quality standards.

• Deliver Great Service: Welcome every guest with a warm smile, take orders accurately, and build connections with regulars.

• Maintain Café Standards: Keep the bar, counter, seating area, and display cases clean, organized, and inviting.

• Food & Cash Handling: Prepare light food items (pastries, sandwiches) and process transactions quickly and accurately at the register.

• Teamwork: Work collaboratively with fellow team members during peak rushes to keep the shift running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Previous food service experience is an asset
• Experience working with Second Cup or similar specialty-coffee franchise an asset
• Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset
• Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene.
• Additional certification may be required by work location
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
