Part-Time Inventory Control Specialist / Material Handler

Westpoint Naturals is looking for a self-motivated and energetic person, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to teamwork.

This position is Monday-Friday, half days. The ideal candidate can either work 4 hours per day in the morning or afternoon.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Inventory Controller/Material Handler is instrumental in maintaining the accuracy of our inventory. This role involves precise storage of products, conducting daily cycle counts, ensuring accurate recording of all receipts and orders, and investigating discrepancies on a timely basis.

Major Responsibilities:

Lot Tracing:

• Oversee lot tracing procedures to ensure traceability and compliance with quality standards.
• Work closely with production and quality control teams to trace and monitor lots effectively.

Receiving Accuracy:

• Oversee the accurate and timely receiving of incoming inventory, verifying quantities and quality against purchase orders.
• Collaborate with receiving and inspection teams to address any discrepancies promptly.

Cycle Counting:

• Conduct regular cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory levels.
• Understand cycle count data to identify trends and implement corrective actions for discrepancies.

ERP Utilization:

• Proficiently use and navigate ERP systems to manage and update inventory data.
• Ensure accurate and real-time inventory records through regular system updates.

Scanning Technology:

• Operate and manage barcode scanners and related technologies for efficient tracking of inventory movements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve scanner-related issues to maintain smooth operations.

Inventory Error Adjustment:

• Investigate and correct inventory errors promptly, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
• Collaborate with relevant teams to prevent recurring errors and improve overall accuracy.

System Discrepancies:

• Identify and resolve system discrepancies, such as unit of measure, lot number, and best-before details.
• Collaborate with IT and system administrators to address and correct system issues.

Quality Control:

• Work closely with quality control teams to implement and maintain quality standards in the storage and handling of inventory.
• Participate in regular quality audits to identify and address any issues.

Documentation:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to inventory transactions, adjustments, and movements.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Ideal Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• High school degree or equivalent.
• 3 years of previous experience in warehousing.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or related field.
• Familiarity with D-Tec ERP system.
• Reach truck license.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills :

• Solid understanding of inventory counting, bin locating, and material management.
• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Thorough understanding of the manufacturing process with realistic expectations regarding timelines.
• Team player with flexibility to undertake various duties contributing to organizational success.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Role has a significant physical component, strength and stamina required.

Standards:

• Continuously strive to exceed the goal of a 99% inventory accuracy rate.
• Ensure all purchase orders are received, put away, and accurately recorded within 24 hours.
• Assign a home location to all items in the warehouse.
