Position Summary
The Career Events Officer is responsible to plan, organize, promote and deliver career-related events that connect students with employers and alumni and support internships and full-time employment outcomes. The incumbent works closely with business development officers, career coaches and advisors, employers, alumni, students, and internal stakeholders to deliver and execute networking programs that strengthen students’ career readiness and industry connections.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, organization, promotion, and execution of a portfolio of career-related events, such as career fairs (e.g. Jaclyn Fisher), networking events (e.g. Real Talks), company information sessions, networking trips (Toronto Meet McGill) and other experiential career activities that will expose Desautels students to target companies and support student job search efforts. These events can take place in Montreal or in other cities.
- Collaborate with business development officers, career coaches, and career advisors to align event programming with employer recruitment needs and student career development objectives.
- Develop and implement sector-specific and experiential career initiatives that reflect emerging industry trends and evolving employer talent needs.
- Oversee all aspects of event logistics, including scheduling, registration, communication, vendors, venues, catering, guest relations, audiovisual requirements, and on-site delivery.
- Manage and monitor event performance through attendance tracking, participant feedback and outcome metrics, and prepare reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Recruit, train and supervise student interns who support the coordination of events and the engagement with the alumni community.
- Foster strong relationships with employer representatives, alumni, and internal stakeholders to expand student engagement opportunities.
- Develop innovative programming and networking plans that strengthen connections between students, employers, and alumni.
- Facilitate the delivery of integrated student workshops and career programming in collaboration with Career Coaches and Advisors.
- Uphold excellence in end-to-end participant experience for students, employers, alumni, and key stakeholders.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Knowledge of campus recruitment practices, timelines and emerging trends.
- Results-driven, self-starter, and highly motivated with a leadership and interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables and shifting priorities.
- Experience in program development, marketing and project management an asset.
- Ability to generate, analyze and read data; identify trends and recommend appropriate action.
- Client-focused with excellent organizational, listening, problem solving, planning, and priority setting skills.
- Proficient using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Canva, Photoshop and sound knowledge of social media and graphic design tools
- Strong attention to detail with a good understanding of consistent branding and high-quality branded materials (brochures, website, videos, photos).
- Occasional overtime required and work in evenings for events
- Bilingual English and French (spoken and written)
