Remote Robotic Systems (RRS) is a Canadian robotics and defence technology company helping organizations deploy drones, robotic platforms, sensors, payloads, and remote operations technologies for mission-critical applications across defence, public safety, industrial, infrastructure, energy, and government sectors.

AirMetal Robotics, the manufacturing division of RRS, builds and scales our unmanned aerial and robotic platforms. As we continue to grow, we are investing in the people, processes, and systems required to consistently deliver high-quality products at scale.

We are looking for a hands-on Quality Manager to build and lead our quality function as we scale our manufacturing operations.

The Role

The Quality Manager will establish the systems, standards, processes, and team required to ensure our products meet defined quality, reliability, and customer requirements.

This is a foundational leadership role responsible for designing and implementing an ISO 9001:2015-aligned Quality Management System, developing inspection and testing programs, and embedding quality throughout the organization.

The Quality Manager will serve as the independent quality authority for product acceptance, hold, quarantine, and rejection decisions.

What You Will Work On

Quality Leadership

• Establish and lead the Quality Control team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
• Define inspection and testing requirements throughout the manufacturing process.
• Build a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Serve as the final quality authority for product acceptance, hold, quarantine, and rejection decisions.

Quality Management System

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001:2015.
• Develop and maintain quality policies, procedures, work instructions, and document control processes.
• Lead internal audits, external certification audits, and customer quality audits.
• Support future quality, customer, and regulatory requirements as the organization grows.

Product and Manufacturing Quality

• Develop inspection plans, acceptance criteria, and testing procedures for components, assemblies, and finished products.
• Lead nonconformance management, corrective and preventive actions, and root-cause investigations.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to improve product reliability, yield, and process capability.
• Oversee supplier quality programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Quality Data and Reporting

• Establish traceability requirements, quality records, and performance metrics.
• Monitor and report key quality indicators to leadership.
• Use quality data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready quality documentation.

Core Requirements

• Degree or diploma in engineering or engineering technology, preferably electrical, electronics, or mechanical, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of quality experience in electronics or electromechanical manufacturing.
• 3+ years of experience leading a quality or inspection team.
• Hands-on experience building or substantially rebuilding a Quality Management System.
• Experience supporting or leading an organization through ISO 9001 certification.
• Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001.
• Knowledge of PCBA defect modes, including solder-joint integrity, wetting, via and through-hole fill, and component placement.
• Demonstrated experience leading root-cause investigations and CAPA using tools such as 8D, 5-Why, FMEA, and basic SPC.
• Strong technical writing skills, including procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and audit reports.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, evolving environment and make sound quality decisions with incomplete information.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Eligible for registration under the Controlled Goods Program, if required.
• Ability to work on-site in Kanata, Ontario.

Nice to Have

• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, or an equivalent certification.
• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification.
• Experience with AS9100, aerospace, defence, robotics, or unmanned systems manufacturing.
• Experience using NetSuite, MES, eQMS, or other quality management software.
• Lean Six Sigma certification.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.

Employment Details

Type: Full-time, permanent. This posting is for an newly created role.

Location: On-site in Kanata, Ontario.

Reporting To: COO in the interim.

Travel: Occasional travel to supplier, manufacturing partner, and customer sites may be required, approximately 10%.
