Specialized Student Transportation Attendant

Position Summary

The Accessible Student Transportation Attendant is required to support Coach Canada’s obligations under designated student transportation service contracts. Working with the Bus Driver, Dispatch, school/customer representatives, and authorized parents or guardians, the position provides active supervision and assistance to help ensure students are transported safely, securely, and respectfully.

Location: Milton, ON

Status: Part-Time/ Casual

Hours of work: Sunday 10:30am - 8:00pm and when Monday is a holiday Tuesday 3:00am - 12:00pm.

Assignment requirements vary based on the needs of the student(s).

Key Responsibilities

• Actively monitor student safety, behaviour, comfort, and well-being throughout the route.
• Reinforce approved seating, safety, behavioural, and student-specific transportation instructions.
• Assist students with safe boarding and exiting, including approved mobility or communication support required by the assignment.
• Ensure students exit only at authorized locations and in accordance with the approved release process.
• When an authorized receiving adult is not present, immediately contact Dispatch, remain with the student inside the vehicle, and follow instructions. Students must never be left unattended.
• Use approved prevention and de-escalation techniques and promptly report safety, behavioural, medical, or service concerns.
• Assist the Driver during emergencies and evacuations and provide only first aid or medical support within current training and written authorization.
• Complete accurate and timely incident reports and use only approved communication channels.
• Protect student and family information in accordance with applicable privacy requirements, the service contract, and Company policy.
• Assist the Driver in confirming all students have exited and that student seating areas and aisles are clear of belongings or hazards.
• Refer all requests regarding route, schedule, stop, seating, or student-release changes to Dispatch or the designated Company contact.
• Provide medical, mobility, or specialized assistance only within the scope of current training and authorization.
• Maintain student confidentiality and only collect or share photographs, recordings, or personal information when authorized for a legitimate business purpose.
• Follow all safety requirements, student-specific instructions, Company policies, and service contract requirements, escalating any conflicting direction immediately.
• Perform other related responsibilities or tasks assigned in connection with the Company’s service agreement with the school.

Required Qualifications

• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening, with renewal as required.
• Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification from a Company-approved provider.
• Clear English communication and the ability to follow written and verbal procedures and complete reports.
• Calm judgment, patience, reliability, situational awareness, and effective de-escalation skills.
• Availability for assigned schedules, which may include early mornings, afternoons, split shifts, and multiple routes.
• Assignment-specific requirements may include EpiPen training, ASL or alternative communication skills, mobility-device support, behavioural support, or other student-specific training and competencies.
• Demonstrates strong judgment, discretion, and emotional maturity while maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and respectful relationships with students and families.
• Represents Coach Canada with warmth, patience, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to providing a safe and positive experience for every student.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Accessible Canada Act (ACA) and applies accessibility, inclusion, and dignity principles when supporting students with diverse needs.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily inside a moving bus and may involve noise, vibration, confined spaces, seasonal weather, extended sitting, and physical assistance.

Schedules and physical requirements vary by assignment. Approved equipment, safe-work practices, additional assistance, and accommodation will be used or considered as applicable.
