Remote Senior/Lead Backend Engineer - Build-A-Bera

Background:Build-A-Bera is the capital arm/incubator for Berachain, a high-performance, EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible, Layer 1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK. Berachain uses a variant of delegated Proof of Stake called Proof of Liquidity consensus to rehypothecate liquidity as security at the protocol level, aligning incentives between liquidity and security across the ecosystem.

Role Overview:We are seeking a talented and motivated Backend Engineer to join our team. As a Backend Engineer at Build-A-Bera, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the server-side logic, database systems, and integration of various services that power our blockchain ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about decentralized finance and blockchain technology.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including front-end engineers, product managers, and blockchain engineers to deliver high-quality products.
• Implement security and data protection measures to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the blockchain network.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
• Participate in the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding, testing, debugging, and deployment.
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for newly developed features and APIs.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems to ensure reliability and performance.
• Continuously improve code quality, review code, and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in backend development and blockchain technology.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience in backend development with proficiency in languages such as Go, Rust, Python, or Node.js.
• Strong understanding of database management systems, both SQL and NoSQL.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of blockchain technology and experience working with EVM-compatible chains or the Cosmos SDK is highly preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug and optimize complex systems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with smart contract development and understanding of DeFi protocols.
• Familiarity with security best practices in the context of blockchain and backend development.
• Previous contributions to open-source projects or participation in the blockchain developer community.
• Experience with agile development methodologies and tools.
